Meet Janett Salas and Victor Vargas of The Bear’s Den in Tempe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janett Salas and Victor Vargas.

Janett and Victor, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We started The Bear’s Den Entertainment in 2016, shortly after graduating from film school at ASU. Throughout film school we produced a handful of films, as well as a feature length documentary. We began working with companies that were interested in video marketing and we both saw a great opportunity in helping other businesses tell their stories.

Now, we are looking to help more companies share their vision. The Bear’s Den is a sponsor of the Digital Summit Phoenix: Digital Marketing Conference this February to meet more passionate people that need help communicating to their clients.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Our biggest challenge was finding our identity as a video service company. We started as a catch-all media company, creating content including graphic designs, photography, and video. Although this was within our skill set, each process was different, which slowed us down and made it difficult for us to narrow our target audience. While we still love filming events, interviews, and more, we learned that niching down is key and now focus on animated videos, primarily in the technology industry.

Please tell us about The Bear’s Den.
After working with several tech companies, we found that we had a strength in creating animated videos like app demonstrations and company overviews and chose to make this our focus. What sets us apart from other video production companies is that our team is small, which means we’re operating lean and quick! Our low overhead and responsive team allows clients to get the best video in the quickest time. We value ourselves in being great communicators, so clients will never be left out of the loop. We understand that video is a collaborative medium, and therefore have open communication with them throughout the process to ensure their receiving a video that is perfectly tailored for them.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Starting a business comes with several obstacles, but most importantly, learning opportunities. We wouldn’t do anything differently because while some parts were challenging, like finding our identity and establishing ourselves, those experiences refined us to be the company we are today.
