Meet Jane Kwa of Northern Clover in Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jane Kwa.

Jane, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a Singapore born Scottsdale based designer. we have two fashion brands carried throughout Arizona. The first line focuses on graceful, classical lines for ‘difficult to fit’ mature female body types. It is structured to flatter women with a heavy bust, mid-section or hips. It is often challenging for mature women to find clothes that flatter their body shapes. We love showing women how they can look and feel beautiful again with the right clothes, and that is why we call this line ‘Journey’. Journey started Oct 2016. Our other line, Lounge Act, has more casual lines and fabrics purposed as resort wear. The emphasis is on relaxed elegance, with comfortable fabrics that travel well. Both are vacation wear. We are also introducing a third line, Journey Luxury this fall in Nov 2017.

Has it been a smooth road?
Finding our niche and our brand identity was a challenge and we are learning every day on how to refine that. Finding a common sales pitch that I can share with my team so that we are all aligned on our message and what we stand for.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Northern Clover story. Tell us more about the business.
I believe we are the apparel brand that has the stockiest locations in Arizona. Local high-end boutiques do not carry local brands and we have worked very hard to change that. Currently, our brands are carried in more than 10 high-end luxury boutiques in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Ahwatukee, Prescott and we are even in Hotel Valley Ho. We change their minds about carrying local brands. We focus on our stockists and helping them sell so that they replenish and reorder with ours. Our resilience and persistence as a local brand it’s very rewarding to see our brand on the same rack with top specialty brands such as Joseph Ribkoff, Frank Lyman and Alberto Makali.

What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for – any big changes?
We Are working towards being a major player over time in the specialty mature women’s ready to wear locally in Scottsdale and do Scottsdale proud.
