Meet Jamie Maurer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Maurer.

Jamie, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I am a Phoenix native who has always had a love for the arts. Music, and photography especially. I fell in love with photography when I was 20 years old. My mom bought me my first camera, and I couldn’t stop shooting! Over the next several years, my life took some twists and turns I never saw coming. I got married, moved out of state, and put my camera down for a bit. After losing a baby, and a marriage, my camera was something I let collect dust on the shelf. How could I capture happy moments in other’s lives, when mine had just fallen apart? After moving back to Phoenix, I began to heal and move forward. And I realized one of my biggest passions would play an instrumental role in my healing. I picked up my camera, dusted off my lenses, and began capturing moments in other’s lives that meant so much. The biggest inspiration for the name of my company, Remember Me Photos, was my son that I buried. I had the most precious moments captured behind a lens for me, and those were the short moments of his time with us. I realized that I could be an instrument to capture precious moments for others around me. And they would cherish them as much as I did those of my son, Edwin. And Remember Me Photos was born. Out of my grief and pain, came a purpose. To capture moments for others that they would cherish forever. And my heart and passion is to help those around me remember their moments in a tangible and priceless way.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I create my art really by setting a camera, catching the light, and capturing real life’s moments in those around me. My inspiration is the real-life moments of love, joy, and sometimes heartache of others. I want nothing more than to capture moments that words could not begin to express.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I define success as a client feeling that their images reflect who they really are. That the personality and emotions of the subjects I shoot be displayed in the moments I’m lucky enough to capture.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work is able to be seen at remembermephotos.com
