Meet James Fitzgerald of OPEX Fitness in North Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Fitzgerald.

James – Born and raised in Canada and was a high-level soccer player. He was headed to play at a high-end D1 school in the US when he was injured badly. That injury took him into the coaching world because his athletic career was over – for the moment. It was that moment that he knew he would dig into the deep mastery of coaching. He learned from some of the best coaches in the world, but he also learned from doctors, physios, and many others at the top of the health and wellness field.

It was in the early 2000’s that James got into CrossFit, and he ended up winning the 2007 CrossFit Games. That thrust him majorly into the global coaching and athlete lens, and he began to grow his coaching and education business. He and his wife (and 2 young daughters) moved to the United States to run Optimum Performance Training

In 2014, OPT became OPEX. He has instructed over 2000 coaches in the OPEX CCP Coaching Program, his coaches currently coach over 700 clients worldwide in competitive fitness, and he also instructs 50 licensed OPEX Gyms around the world

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been great, overall, but there have been challenges like all individual journeys. James’s injury was a great turning point in his ultimate global coaching journey. He also had a falling out with CrossFit after winning the Games in 2007. Those two examples merely helped him redefine his life’s mission so he’s grateful for them

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about OPEX Fitness – what should we know?
OPEX has 3 main business lines:

1. OPEX CCP – this is a digital and in-person coaching education program. It creates professional coaches who specialized in individual design (customized) for their clients in the functional fitness environment

2. OPEX Gyms – this is designed for OPEX coaches to open OPEX Gyms around the world

3. OPEX Remote Coaching – OPEX HQ coaches coach clients who are all around the world

Everything aligns around honoring the coach and customizing all client’s fitness experience even as they workout in a group environment
