Meet Jamarl Baker of JB Tha Drum Killa in Phoenix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamarl Baker.

Jamarl, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew in a family gospel singing group called The Baker Singers. We toured all over the country.

I have been touring professionally since the age of 5 years old. I got signed to liquid eight records, a subsidiary of Paisley Park Records, the first time at 18. I was playing with the band Driver Six. We played pop-punk. After that, I played with SSR (Seven Story Ruin), a hard rock band, an original project. We almost got signed to Warner Brothers, but the lead singer quit to raise a family. I went into studio work from there. Then came Outlaw Nation, signed to Stoopid Records/sony. The band became successful; however, I needed to take a different journey. That’s when I started touring with The Miracles.

I continue to write, produce and also play as a free agent around town, as well as a tour with The Miracles.

I have played with some wonderful musicians such as Dan Akroid, Sam Moore from Sam and Dave, Prince, and many more.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it has not been smooth. There has been a lot of rejection. But I continue to persevere. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the JB Tha Drum Killa story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a musician. I play a multitude of instruments. My primary is drums. This is what I am known for. I am known for my stage presence, technique, talent, and showmanship. They come for a show… So I give them one. Leave ’em something to remember. I am a performer.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
None. I am blessed. All blessings come from above.
