Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaime Diaz.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started DJ’ing in 1995 with a friends dad. He was a seasoned Dj and had previous on-air experience with a local AM & FM Spanish radio station. As I spent time at his house, his son would occasionally help his dad. One day he asked for help and my friend told his dad he had no interest in entertainment. It caught my attention and I asked his dad if I could help. He said yes and we were off to my first gig as a roadie. It was my first paying gig. In that same year, my brother met another DJ at ASU and began to a roadie with him. As we grew more familiar with DJ’ing, my brother and I began talking about becoming a team. We were not sure if we could pull it off until one day our friend, the DJ from ASU, asked us to help him. We immediately accepted and met him one Saturday afternoon. We proceeded to unload the truck, set up and began to prepare our cd’s. At this time we were completely unaware of what was about to happen. Our DJ friend explained, he had made a mistake and double booked. Therefore, my brother and I would have to work together and DJ this gig, while our friend left to prepare at another gig. We made it through the night and we were a hit. The crowd loved us.
A few weeks later, my brother and I sat down and discussed our future. We organized Unknown Productions. We called it Unknown because no one knew who we were. Productions, because we had skills that no other DJ company had at that time. With our knowledge of theater, set design, lighting, and public speaking, we made a great team. All of the things we did in High School and at the University, unknowingly, had prepared us for this venture.
Our DJ career began and we worked tirelessly, gig after gig. We were booking events and were busy every week. Sometimes, five days a week.
Years passed and we ran a successful DJ service. Fast forward to ten years. My brother decided to leave the business to spend more time with his growing family. Concentrating on band, teaching and mentoring the kids, not only his but any and all kids that wanted to learn. Our love for music has never stopped, he just went a different direction.
In 2006, I ventured out on my own to continue what we had started for the love of music and to continue to make memories for families of whom to this day we still provide DJ services. I have DJ’ed for couples weddings, their kids Quinceanera’s, their kid’s graduation parties, and their kid’s weddings.
In 2007, I competed & was named the Tejano DJ of the year in Phoenix, Arizona. I partnered with DJ RAMON MATUS and together we were crowned winners. Ramon was the MC and I played the DJ set.
I have had some recognition along the way and some failure too. I was asked by Albert Lineses the 3rd to DJ on the radio for Latino Vibe. It was my worst show ever. I was so nervous. Albert called me that night in between the station ID’s and said keep going. He always encouraged me and never did he say my performance was sub-par. Lesson learned! Albert has been a good friend since and I have always looked back at that moment and to never let anything stand in my way; even my own nerves.
I re-branded the business in 2006 to ECHO ENTERTAINMENT. I have proudly continued to give my clients the UNKNOWN PRODUCTIONS Service we started in 1995.
I, DJ ECHO, still strive to give my clients the latest and greatest in DJ event production. I have met many fellow DJ’s in the business and continue to keep my network busy if I am not available for a specific event. The list of DJ’s is long.
I would like to recognize a few individuals that helped me get to this point. Jose Morales, Ricardo Rico & Ryan Jenkins. Without these individuals showing me how to be successful at my DJ business, I would have never reached where I am today.
There are many other DJ’s that have helped me along the way, and I am truly grateful to all of them. There is no way I could ever list them all. I have to give the biggest recognition to my wife, my brother Victor, and my two boys. They have been my rock through all of this. My biggest supporter has always been my brother. Since the beginning, he knew we could make memories for our clients.
Thanks, Victor, Christina, Jacob, and Luey!!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Echo Entertainment – what should we know?
I am a professional Mobile DJ. I have also done bar, nightclub, & corporate events. I specialize in a 100% turnkey Mobile DJ business. I am most known for the special effects, public speaking and my live remixes. I like to use an old beat and new artist to make my sound something unique. I consider myself a mixologist.
I am most proud of the services we provide to all of our clients. I have never missed a gig & continue to create memories with all my clients. Repeat business and word of mouth is how I have done business for years.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Our city and state have a plethora of qualified DJ’s. If someone wants to start DJ’ing, they need to network and practice. You need to put the effort in. It is hard work and hours of practice, but if I did it, you can too. Set your mind to it and don’t look back. The hardest part is taking that first step.
