Meet Jacob Husul

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Husul.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up in Buffalo NY. I was an artist my whole life, but it wasn’t until I had the opportunity to tattoo that I truly had a focus with my art. I moved to the Phoenix area in 2009 and I’ve been tattooing over 10 years, still trying to progress and learn as much as I can. It’s a never-ending journey.

I’m a bit socially awkward so I come off as being quiet sometimes, but I love connecting with clients and meeting so many different people. I’m so grateful that I was given this opportunity because I get to draw, paint and tattoo for a living, things I love to do. I couldn’t be happier about it.

Please tell us about your art.
Over the years my (favorite) styles have changed and progressed into different things. I’ve never been much of a traditional artist as I feel many amazing artists already have that style covered. I tend to lean towards elements of realism, whether it’s stylized or not. I really enjoy tattooing insects, birds and a lot of animals in general. I also really appreciate tattooing elements of life and death.

I tend to keep most of my artwork at least close to being anatomically correct. The organic beauty that nature has already created for us fascinates me. Big or small, I love the idea of recreating what’s already around us with an open mind so we all get to be a part of it. Being open minded and appreciating an artistic perspective is really all I hope for in existing and future clients

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
Artists have the ability to change the world, whether it’s tattoos, music or just art in general. Little by little we have the chance to change people’s perspectives on current and future events. We raise money for charities, help people express the way they feel and give them an outlet they may otherwise not have

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I tattoo at ‘Old Town Ink’ (Master shop from season 9 of Paramount’s Ink master tv series) in Scottsdale AZ. I don’t typically work conventions or have art on display outside the shop besides the clients that wear my artwork. But if you’re interested in getting tattooed, I’m at the shop Tuesday through Friday every week and I do free consultations between 1pm and 7pm. Anyone is welcome to stop in and check out the shop and all the other great artists that work here as well.
