Meet Jackie Lee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Lee. 

Hi Jackie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I got started by accident. I was a third-grade teacher and I was in need of a creative outlet after teaching all day. I asked my husband to make me a batch of cookie dough (I glad never made cookie dough) and I made icing. I just had fun decorating cookies and instantly became hooked. 

I worked for months on perfecting a cookie dough recipe as well as an icing recipe. I would make and decorate cookies each night after I came home from school. I would give the cookies to coworkers and soon they began asking for specific shapes. 

After four months, a friend asked if I would make cookies for her daughters’ wedding. I said yes! 

My motto was always say “yes” no matter what! I wanted to learn as much as I could and took each request as a challenge. 

After making cookies for 7 months, I decided to take a year off teaching to see what I could do with my newfound hobby. I jumped in with both feet and learned every aspect of a small business-creating, baking, marketing, ALL OF IT! 

I never went back to elementary teaching and I’ve been making cookies since 2010. 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I learned pretty quickly that saying “no” was necessary if I wanted to stay sane. That was hard for me because I want to create for everyone. 

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create cookies that are nice to look at and even better to eat. I try not to go overboard with decorating because after all, it’s going to be eaten. I’m known for the presentation. I enjoy finding creative ways to present cookies to my customers. Oftentimes, the packaging comes before the cookies. 

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My family has been my biggest cheerleading squad. They help when they can and taste test if necessary. 

My clients come second! They trust me to create their vision on a cookie. Most give me creative freedom only requesting a theme and colors to go with their event.
