Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Brewer.
Jackie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
There has always been two things at the top of my love-list. Design and books. After my son, Abe, passed away suddenly in 2014, these two loves for me took on a whole new meaning. I went back to school and got my real estate license with my sister Maegan, she knew I’d need the new project. Who knew design and real estate were so intermingled! Alongside this new journey, I also started a new “bookstagram” Instagram account focused on my love of book collecting and super rad new editions of old classics. Fast toward five years and 22k followers later, I love the community and friends I’ve made sharing my love of books. I can’t even tell you how therapeutic books are, it’s been a salve for my soul.
My sister Maegan and I have also loved being involved in real estate in our small town and surrounding communities. We pride ourselves on showing a home’s potential and help buyers see spaces in a whole new way. We also love staging or preparing listings for sellers as well. Real estate is never something I thought I would do before losing my son but has since become a wonderful job. My sister and I also love showcasing our local talented ladies and their homes. It takes some serious creativity to renovate spaces with limited resources and budgets and we have seen amazing results from all Our peeps here in Snowflake/Taylor. This community (literally the entire community) has supported and loved me so much since losing my son and I am so proud to live and work here.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not always! I’m no salesperson, but I’ve learned homes are so personal and it’s such an emotional process, and that I for sure connect with. Me and my sister do things differently but I think it’s more forward-thinking with real estate. We are mom’s and wives and women and we GET the process of home buying. With books I’ve had some dud sponsors or unappealing authors at times, but honestly it’s 99% great. Must be that well-read people are just darn easy to be around haha! I love the bookish community on Instagram and had no idea the far-reaching number that community touched.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Bookstagram is a one-woman show for the most part. I specialize in collectibles and classics and have developed wonderful relationships with certain publishers and distributors. I am a color explosion on my feed and love to pair all my favorite things with my books, vintage quilts and house plants to name a few. With real estate, we are the new generation of women agents in Snowflake for sure. We don’t own any high powered business suits but we have made great connections with our clients in jeans and converse tennies and Lobo tee shirts (our school mascot… you’ll find us at multiple school events each week). We connect with everyone we help and truly want what’s best for them and their families in whatever home they invest in. We have 9 (almost 10, I’m due in September) kids between us and we know what it’s like to balance it all. I think our strength is our relationship. We are closer than any two people possible haha, but that helps us overall in all these endeavors.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Humor is number one for sure. I think authenticity is crucial. We are 100% ourselves every deal and every day. That means honesty, loyalty, and certainly never backing down to anyone in any transaction trying to railroad us. Let’s just say we have one amazing mom who taught us well. I think our creativity sets us apart from other agents. We see things fresh and new. Put a dining table here! Wait that’s supposed to be the TV room right? Not anymore! Why not try this space here instead. Ah-ha moments for our clients and they see things differently as well. Suddenly that weird house for the great low price DOES work for their family.
