Meet Jace Stenersen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jace Stenersen.

Jace, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My passion for wildlife photography started when I was nine. My mother had a camera that she would let me use to photograph the birds perched upon our roof.

It was very quickly that I (and those around me) realized I would be a passionate wildlife photographer from then on.

By age 16 I was selling my first printed photographs at local art events and becoming more and more inspired to share my work. At age 19, I opened my own art gallery in downtown Long Beach, Washington.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to where I’m at has had its ups and downs, and this road is far from over. It’s not always easy to be motivated to get out and photograph wildlife.

Of course, there’s always the thought “what if this passion of mine doesn’t lead anywhere”. But I am a believer that if you truly are this passionate about what you’re doing things will work out. The stars have already aligned for you- make your move.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a bird & wildlife photographer and that’s what I’ve been known for my whole life. What sets me apart from others is my experience at such a young age.

As of January 2023, I’m 21 and have 12 years of experience so far. For most of my career, I’ve specialized in photographing birds, but in recent years I’ve been trying landscape/seascape photography, which has been a great experience so far! Expressing my art through photography is my passion. I first envision the image in my mind, and then I use my tools (camera, etc.) and do all I can to bring it to life for others to see.

What do you think about luck?
I’d say business is more about passion than it is luck. Though I will say stumbling upon strangers and making great connections out of simple interactions has certainly happened!
