Meet J.R. Jordan of Colorado Bankers Services in Southeast Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to J.R. Jordan.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
J.R. Jordan is the Senior Vice President of Colorado Bankers Services. For over 20 years he has focused all of his efforts in the ancillary product market, specifically critical illness & accident Insurance. Starting as just a teenager J.R. learned as many facets of the insurance industry as possible; supplies, new business, licensing, contracting and direct sales. Along with his brother and late father he has been a key player in bringing critical illness insurance to the marketplace and has provided education, marketing tools/tips and training to thousands of agents nationwide. He is also a Nationally Acclaimed Certified Public Speaker and travels the nation conducting seminars and symposiums on cross selling and how to make an amazing living while embracing healthcare reform. In addition, J.R. previously served on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Critical Illness Insurance!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The life & health insurance industry has gone through many changes in the past two decades. In the beginning it was convincing agents that critical illness insurance would make them a great living. Next we had to convince the customer that the insurance is real! Most people dont know that critical illness exists but once they do they want to buy! Finally we have been dealing with “Obama-Care”/The ACA for some time. The onset of the affordable care act reduced agent commission on medical plans and threw the market into chaos. Luckily our products were not affected by the laws and it increased our overall business. Building back persistency is the latest struggle!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The claim process. Just knowing the we build products that not only allow agents to make an amazing living but give the consumer the ability to maintain their lifestyle when they do suffer a critical illness such as a heart attack, stroke or cancer. When that consumer receives a check upon diagnosis is always the proudest moments
