Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabelle Guarino.
Hi Isabelle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story about business ownership is a little different. I didn’t set out to be a business owner, I never knew this was my dream. My dad started a business over 10 years ago, and I started working for him; I love working by his side and being his integrator. I felt very at home as the right-hand gal, never needing the spotlight or gunning for anything more than just supporting his dream.
I enjoyed turning his visions into actual businesses, running payroll, and finding ways to expand our business and make an impact in our community. He passed in 2021, and everything changed… I had a choice… step up or shut everything down.
Although I never had ambitions to run a company, it felt like the obvious choice. I knew everything about the industry, I loved our team and respected our clients and I didn’t want to just shut down and feel defeated by his passing, it was already defeating enough.
To honor him and continue to live his legacy out, I stepped up, became our company’s CEO, and started running things as the main stage presenter, traveling the country, making big decisions, building relationships with affiliates, and always putting our employees and customers first.
I found my actual calling. I would have never known. Jumping off the cliff into something so scary, so unknown, and being so unprepared was terrifying, but it was all worth it. I learned so much about myself along the way; I stretched and grew in ways I never imagined I could.
Now I have increased the company’s revenue by $2 million dollars, lessened expenses in significant ways, and brought a huge new light to a booming industry that desperately needed this attention. It’s taken a toll on me, but it’s been so fruitful as well. Isn’t that what entrepreneurship is, after all? Give up that 9 to 5 to work 5 to 9 on your dreams, your vision, or your passion!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road at all. I’ve made bad hires along the way; I’ve had to let go of people I love dearly. We’ve had to learn to cope with this new landscape of clientele and their new needs in our current economy. I’ve failed as a leader time and time again.
But at the end of the day, each of those mistakes, each of those punches to the face, were so valuable, so much more valuable than the easy days, than the days where everything went right. It’s the times when you’re down that show you who you are and what you’re capable of, and those are the days I’m most proud of myself.
We’ve been impressed with the Residential Assisted Living Academy & Young Boss Podcast, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I currently run a few businesses, but my main focus is the Residential Assisted Living Academy! It’s an incredible company that teaches real estate investors and entrepreneurs how to own and operate care homes for seniors across the country. You don’t need to be a medical professional, a doctor, or a nurse, although it can help.
We work with people ages 22 to 72. This is a blue ocean opportunity for anyone who wants to become successful! Not only can you cashflow $10k a month on a luxury single-family home but you can also make a huge impact in changing the lives of seniors, caregivers, and families who need your housing and services.
My other business is my new podcast, Young Boss! It’s been such a fun passion project that really turned into an incredible opportunity! We hit the Top 100 podcasts for Entrepreneurs in early 2024, and we’ve been skyrocketing ever since.
It’s a fun show that talks about the wins, struggles, and tactical steps to becoming a young boss in today’s world. We have guests under 35 showcasing their talents and skills and sharing with us what they’ve learned along the way. We get into the mess of it all and have a lot of fun doing it!
How do you define success?
I define success as having small wins. You can be successful even on your worst day by just getting out of bed, showering, and reading a few chapters of a book. Or maybe going for a walk, cooking a nice meal, or spending time with a friend.
Whatever your personal goals are, and believe me, they can change daily depending on circumstances; you need to set out each morning what would make that day a success… If you just had a baby make it is taking a walk, if you’re a high-performing athlete maybe it’s lifting 300 lbs getting 2 gym sessions in, and eating your macros perfectly! If you’re a business owner, maybe it’s making 25 new connections at a Mastermind event.
Every day is different, and success can look and feel different every day. It cannot be measured by a dollar amount, it can only be measured in the heart, if X was accomplished will I feel like today was a win? And if so, then that is TODAY’S success measure!
