Meet Holly Pace of Happy Tails Barkery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Pace.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When life gave me lemons, I decided to make dog treats! After being laid off after 20 years in Corporate America, this is how Happy Tails Barkery became a reality and a dream come true!

Our dogs are our kids and we want them to stay strong and healthy for a long time. Part of my belief is not feeding them anything containing grains. I got started by baking biscuits for my dogs because I wanted to feed them healthful snacks. I never imagined that my passion for baking would turn into my new business!

A few months after I was let go, I decided to sell my dog treats at the local Farmers Market and that’s how Happy Tails Barkery was born!

Has it been a smooth road?
Initially, my biggest challenge was trying to figure out how I could run this business from home as I needed to upgrade my kitchen and create space for supplies. It took a lot of capital to get started, but I was fortunate enough to have my severance package to help me with the start-up costs.

Seven years later, I am happy to report that we have a fabulous customer base that is passionate about their dogs too.

I love how HTB is growing and someday I can see moving to a commercial space as it continues to grow.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Happy Tails Barkery story. Tell us more about the business.
My specialty is baking Grain, Gluten and GMO-Free Dog Treat from scratch. I also specialize in custom K9 Birthday Cakes, PupCakes and Doggy FroYo.

I am proud to say our customers never have to be concerned about ingredients as we use food from local farmers and producers, such as honey, carrots, sweet potatoes, and farm fresh eggs.

Our treats and cakes are made right in my kitchen and I am super lucky to work at the farmer’s markets as it gives me the ability to make the freshest and delicious dog treats. This alone sets us apart from our competition.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The pet industry category is constantly growing so I am looking forward to seeing what new products are trending. Every year I attend various trade shows to see what the latest trends are. I like to stay ahead of the curve and trying to keep up with the big guys is always fun for me!
