Today we’d like to introduce you to Heide Roston.
Heide, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I became a Personal Trainer 17 years ago because of my love for human physiology, the athletic mindset and how a strategically planned and consistently executed weight training program can reshape the body.
After a few years of training, I began to see a pattern among my female clients. The majority of them were intimidated by the idea of lifting weights and only the cardio section of the gym was comfortable for them. It became part of my mission then and continues now to ensure that any woman that has the desire for an athletic physique and overall healthier body has the tools to build that body and can reap the benefits of the self-confidence that comes with it.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This is a great question! The road has not been smooth but the struggles along the way have proven beneficial as they provided priceless lessons and educated me in ways that I wouldn’t have imagined. With any journey, it’s important to be flexible and adjust, adjust and then re-adjust until you figure out what works best.
One of the biggest challenges I’ve encountered as a Trainer is the balance of being a skillful practitioner and a compassionate ear. I lean more towards the practitioner side, continually focusing on what can help the client achieve their short-term and long-term goals. However, I’ve learned the art of listening to my clients because regardless of how well I believe I know their physiology, they ultimately are the experts of their bodies and my knowledge/experience enhances that awareness.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a Women’s Fitness Coach and my business, “The Wellthy Blonde” focuses on meeting each person where they are on their fitness journey and getting them to where they want to be – together, we create their best version.
I am proud of each of my clients. I’m proud that they have the courage to hire a coach (not everybody does – it’s a humbling experience). I’m proud they consistently show up and work hard EVERY time. And of course, I’m proud of their amazing results on weight loss, muscle gains, nutrition awareness, injury recovery, self-confidence and soooo much more. Their victories give me life!
It’s cliche, but what sets me apart is that I truly care. Don’t get me wrong, I love money but I don’t do this solely for money. I do it for the feeling I get when my clients tell me they were able to hike Camelback in record time after coming back from an ACL injury. I do it for the client that tells me her doctor took her off the high blood pressure medication because the consistent exercise has returned her blood pressure to a normal range.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have found a couple of highly successful people in my industry and learned from them. Why reinvent the wheel if you can find someone who is at the top of their game and learn from them – this way you shorten your own learning curve and build a bond simultaneously.
I’m very independent and prideful which can be to my detriment. I would ask for help more often and ask more questions even when I’m fearful it’s not a “good” one.
