Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Brendle.
Hi Heather, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was lucky enough to grow up in a family of dogs. Since 2003, owning and training my dogs has become one of the great loves of my life. Over the years, I have owned several breeds and enjoyed training and competing in various dog sports. I enjoy learning about new training techniques and using them to teach new behaviors and solve problems. I want to make sure my dogs are living their best life possible. My dogs are my companions and partners, making my life so much more enjoyable!
I began training my dogs in 2003 when I got my first Rottweiler puppy, Link. We attended years of classes, learning together. I adopted my first competition prospect, Lucy, in 2005; in 2007, we began competing in agility. I also worked in a doggy daycare and taught puppy classes. I moved to Arizona in 2009 and opened opportunities to try different sports and expand my training knowledge. I have taken classes from a well-rounded group of instructors, both in person and online, in obedience, rally obedience, conformation, scent work, barn hunting, and dock diving.
I have realized through the years that most dog owners have families and many responsibilities that make training and socializing a puppy challenging. However, training and socialization are cornerstones in helping a puppy become a confident, stable adult. I also realized that people passionate about dog training have many small tips and tricks to make raising a puppy a much more enjoyable experience! Giving people tips for their family pets that make their lives with their dogs easier makes me so happy! It doesn’t matter where your puppy came from; they are a family member, and I love showing people how enjoyable owning a dog can be!
I have had multiple people ask me over the years if I could train their puppies for them so they can get a jumpstart in life. After helping friends train their puppies, working with them on foundation skills, and thoroughly enjoying myself, I decided to take the plunge! Together with my husband, Jeremy, and our two dogs, Thiago and Tater, we launched Puppy-K All Day!
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Creating my business has been a natural progression. My entire life has been centered around dogs, and it feels meant to be that I finally own a business centered around them. The experiences and challenges that have led me to gain the wide range of knowledge I now have have been challenging and challenging to work through. Most dog trainers become trainers because they own a tough dog, and training and managing that dog becomes necessary. Then, they find they have a passion for it, and for me, that dog was Link. I loved him, and he and I were a great team, but he was not the easiest dog to own for many reasons. I am grateful for the experience because I found dog training and behavior and have never looked back. Dogs have given me some of the best experiences of my life and some of my best friends, which is a true gift.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Most people go into dog training because they love dogs, and while that is a good start, you also need to have a passion for helping people. Good dog trainers wear many hats; they are good communicators, love customer service educators, are skilled in dog behavior, and must have a good understanding of the mechanics of dog training.
Although I could train all types of dogs, I specialize in puppies and have built a business model that works well for my clients. I offer a day train model, where you drop your puppy off for 9 hours daily, and while you are busy tending to your life, I train, socialize, and enrich your puppy! At night, they go home and are relaxed and ready to settle in with your family but still have the opportunity to bond with you. Puppies are hard! The day train program has been a severe win for all of my clients, and it allows me the time to get to know the puppy and give my clients the best experience. I also do personalized videos of every one-on-one training session we do so you can learn right along with us, and they are sent via private video links in case you need them again in the future. The puppies gain the experience of being around my stable adult dogs who enjoy being around puppies, which also helps them gain confidence and learn.
I am incredibly proud of the clients I have helped since starting Puppy-K All Day. I have made their lives and the lives of their puppies better by teaching them skills and tricks and sharing the knowledge I have gained over 20 years of training my dogs. Starting Puppy-K All Day has allowed me to combine my passion for dogs, my love of people, and my skill as an educator into a busy I truly believe in.
With Puppy-K All Day’s success, I have added other avenues to share my knowledge and experiences. I now offer an online course on how to find ethically bred puppies, Puppy Connect Consultations, where I help people find the right puppy for them, and I co-host a podcast called Sometimes There’s Side Eye. I can’t wait to continue adding more content and educational programs in these areas beyond my day training programs.
Let’s end by discussing what matters most to you and why.
What matters the most to me is that people enjoy their dogs, and their dogs live full lives with their families. I love it when a client comes to me so frustrated and overwhelmed but, by the end of my program, is enjoying their puppy and seeing all of their potential! I have had so many wonderful dogs in my lifetime, and it brings me great joy to know that I am a small piece of other people with that same excellent relationship with their dogs.
