Today we’d like to introduce you to Hazuki Nabana.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a Japanese dancer. I moved here in Los Angeles in 2013. once I got here, I started to train in hiphop dance at Debbie Reynolds, Millennium dance complex, Movement Lifestyle and Evolution Dance studio with so many great dance teachers. Later that year, I started training freestyle, groove, waacking, house, popping, locking and more. Also, I started to perform on stage or in videos and films as a dancer after many years of training.
Two years ago, I met Leonardo Martinez and started to work with him as his back up dancer. We traveled and performed on many stages. Dance is my dream, job, happiness, friend, and meditation. I’ve become more into dance through history, experience, memory and training.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning, a different language and culture were difficult for me. Also, I was struggling a little because I didn’t have any friends and family here at a new place. However, now I enjoy finding new knowledge and experiences. I have beautiful friends and family who support me a lot and I really love them. I sometimes feel stuck growing as a dancer, but once I play music and let my body move to it, I can move on.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My job is to audition, rehearse, perform and film. I’m proud of myself as I can give your art extra joy and shine as a dancer. I can become music on your ears and feelings. I’m so happy when my dance makes people happy and inspires them.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I keep learning and don’t give up. I take a break, but I don’t stop what I love to do. I do things that I feel are right. I haven’t reached some of my goals, but I can feel I’ve grown since I began, so I know if I follow them, my dreams will come true. Also, when I dance I’m honest to music, sound and lyrics. I move my body to answer from the bottom of my heart. I become the art and music.
