Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Noelle.
Hannah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was hired by my church to take pictures at a camp for children 8-12 years old, and I fell in love with the feeling of making other people smile. I modeled for four years before that, but the feeling behind the camera was such a different feeling.
I started an Instagram page where I posted my favorite pictures from the camp and got a lot of requests to take senior photos, newborn photos, and couples photos. I’ve been taking pictures for about three years now just as a side job, but I absolutely love it!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Since photography is just a side job for me, I don’t use it as my only source of income. It has been pretty rough though trying to distinguish the difference between friend and photographer.
Some of my friends would message me after we graduated for photoshoots but would refuse to pay me because “we’re friends,” so that has been a real struggle throughout the process of trying to build my business.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Photos by Noelle story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m mostly known for singing. I sang at my church for almost ten years and won a lot of competitions at school for singing. Photography just kind of came into the mix and it was awesome.
For my photography business, the thing I pride myself most in is that I get photos done quickly. I remember when I was modeling it would take weeks to get my photos in so I always try to get them to my clients in no less than two days after I take them!
I also like to think that because I’ve done the modeling thing before, I can make people feel more comfortable in the atmosphere therein, that way the photos come out more candid
We always love to ask about the support network – have there been people, perhaps mentors or advisors, who have played a big role in your success?
My previous photographer, Katy, definitely holds a special place in my heart. She taught me how to work the camera and how to build my business. I loved that she never made it feel competitive considering we were both photographers in a small neighborhood.
My mom also played a huge part because she referred me to a lot of her friends and their kids, and never let me give up. Even when people brought me down, she always showed me that there was a light at the end of the tunnel.
