Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Allen.
Hannah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a little girl, I have always loved photography. I have been taking pictures as long as I can remember! The first time I remember being really proud of a photo I took was when I was living in Paris, France and I took a picture while on a boat of someone above me on a bridge. I would say that was the moment I really felt that this was my calling. During my college days, I actually was going to school for Interior Design and graduated with my BS in Interior Design. I love Interior Design and I loved design school, I think it has helped me to be the photographer I am today–I just knew that photography was my true calling. A couple of years after I graduated, I bought my first DSLR camera and it all went up from there! I started my business and began to really love photographing people and their special moments. I love getting to know people and talking with complete strangers. I love being able to capture who people truly are and who they truly love.
Has it been a smooth road?
Starting my photography business has definitely not been the smoothest road, and I am still working on it! You really have to put yourself out there and just be yourself–it is not easy. I’ve learned though that in order to succeed, you just have to tell people your ideas, be vulnerable and be okay with people telling you that they don’t like your work, as hard as that is! There will always be people who are trying to bring you down, but you just have to believe in yourself and have a good support group around you.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Eveve Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
My photography business really focuses on weddings, couples, and families. I love seeing love. I love being able to capture someone looking at their “person” with little hearts in their eyes. I love being able to make people vulnerable and open up and to not be afraid to show who they are. I’ve always wanted my brand to promote body positivity and loving yourself because people aren’t always comfortable in front of the camera, and I want to make my clients feel comfortable and beautiful–because everyone is beautiful in their own way.
As far as the aesthetics of my work, I would say my work is whimsical and moody. I love when a photograph tells a story and when it is unique, so I really try to create photos for my clients that will stand out. I love experimenting with lighting and different angles, I really like my galleries to have a couple of really artistic shots that are unique.
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
Well, I would have to say just getting my business up and going! I am not a very shy person at all, but showing people my work and being open and vulnerable is something that is somewhat hard for me, so getting out of my comfort zone and having other photographers critique my work has been a huge accomplishment. I have learned so much and I continue to learn so much. I’ve also had a couple of stylized shoots that I organized that I absolutely adore–so those were definitely something to be proud of!
