Meet Grim Moses of Ghost Gun Records and Clothing in West Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Moore aka Grim Moses or Austin”Grim Moses” Moore.

Grim, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I run an independent record label called Ghost Gun records and clothing or GGR/C. I am an independent Hip Hop artist. I moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 2003. I made my way through the Local scene performing at open mics in the valley. I ended up at the Big Fish Pub in 2005 at an event called “The Invisible Lounge”. While freestyling in the parking lot outside the club. I met a guy named Joe Baggs. He was apart of the group who happened to throw the event and was promoting their new cd which hadn’t been picked up by any record label at the time.

Me and Joe Baggs became good friends and he introduced me to his rap crew The Society Of Invisibles. I paid my dues and supported the crew’s effort’s and in 2010 I recorded my first solo record called “Enpsychlowpedia Satanika”. produced by The Premonist who was apart of the production team The DeadBeats. Since my involvement with the group I have been able to travel the country and perform with legends like, Sean Price, Jeru tha Damajah, Cannibal Ox, Sick Jackin and Benny the Butcher. I have had numerous international write-ups and in 2019 I was awarded Best Of Bandcamp Hip Hop 2019. Listed amongst nine others including Aesop Rock from Def Jux records. I am happy to say that my hard work and dedication to making niche boom bap style hip hop is starting to earn me recognition as an Underground top tier artist.

Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely not, drug addiction violence and homelessness have plagued my life in the past. I come from a broken home and I am blessed to be alive today. I have lived in nine different states went to jail in three of them. If it had not been for Hip hop and writing I don’t think I would have been able to deal with the trauma or addiction in my life. I am glad to say I am clean, focused and giving my all to my craft. I have had to rebuild everything myself since the fall of The Society Of Invisibles. My dear friend and brother Jason aka Indrid Cold had a stroke and fell into a coma and ever since that incident, the group is done. But part of my drive with this music is to continue to represent for the culture and to pay homage to those who helped me along the way.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Our Brand is about creating Avant Guard style Hip hop with a focus on addressing the issues of Society. I want to use music to bring attention to the Ego and how it affects the world today. I.E. Abuse, Poverty, Greed and Violence. We want to bring Culture back to HipHop and represent the minimalism and Intellectual side that Boom bap brings. Instead of reusing current topics and trends of commercialized rap.

Which is filled with ideas that do not promote Spirit or Ingenuity. We will offer mixing, mastering, graphic design and video editing to the community starting 2021. I am most proud to say GGR/C released 7 albums in 2019. Producers included Camoflauge Monk, The Architect, Beatahoe and Solomon Strange out of east London. I am finally starting to gain traction after 24 years of perfecting my skill. To anyone with a dream I say this, Never allow others to dictate your vision and always have confidence and trust in yourself.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the Phoenix valley. Honestly, there are so many different people from all over the world here. It is the 5th largest city in the US and we have so much room for growth. I would like to see the local radio stations facilitate more opportunities for local artists and be more active in the community. In my opinion, the only thing I dislike really though is the Heat and the traffic. lol.
