Meet Ginnell Mallett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ginnell Mallett.

Ginnell, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up I watched my mother and late grandmother care for my siblings and me as best they could. My mother worked multiple jobs to support us with my grandmother right alongside her. My mother experienced many challenges in life and was under tremendous stress, and as such, there was a time when she lost her hair and began to wear wigs. As a child growing up, I was often teased for how I looked, and have always had thin hair, I became very self-conscious and was very sensitive to any appearance related comments which took a toll on my self-esteem and confidence. Over the years I have seen many women in my family experience various forms of hair thinning and/or severe hair loss for various reasons. Additionally, having a background in the healthcare industry, I have encountered women with various forms of cancer who also experience hair loss as a result of radiation and chemotherapy.

Fast forward, I completed high school, started a family, pursued higher level education thereby obtaining my Masters in Business Administration, and I decided that I needed to do something to not only help women in my immediate family but, to help others as well. It is important for women as the pillars and backbone of our families that we not only demonstrate strength and perseverance but that we feel good about ourselves as we blaze through the journey of life. I began to research hair types, wigs, and the hair industry in general and decided that I wanted to embark upon an online hair store. I utilized my funds to acquire hair samples to test and explore in order to ensure that I offer quality products to my customers. Each purchase also helps to afford someone in need such as a cancer patient with a complimentary wig. By embarking upon this journey, I not only set an example for my daughters and my son, but I am also able to give back and help someone else.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
With any venture, there are opportunities and challenges along the way. No matter what form of business one may embark upon, start-up cost, products on hand, marketing/advertisement, etc. not to mention competition. I utilized my own personal funds to launch my business. Building a brand takes time, but I am humbly confident that hard work pays off, and coupled with giving back is only a recipe for success.

Please tell us about your business.
Crown & Glory is an online hair store featuring quality hair bundles and wigs. My goal is to ensure that Crown & Glory operates with integrity by providing quality products to customers, providing honest transparent customer service, and connecting with people and communities by giving back. I am proud that my company is founded on Christian principles and was formed from my own personal experiences, family experiences, and a strong belief in giving back.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
One thing I would do differently would be to engage women directly to gain more understanding of their needs, concerns and what they look for with respect to quality hair products, but I am looking forward to every customer encounter, to hear their stories and help women feel good about themselves.
