Meet Gia Ciliento of The Brush Bar in Old Town Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gia Ciliento.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After working in corporate America for a few years I decided that if I was going to take a leap of faith, I better do it now. I have always been a creative person, but turning it into a thriving business was something I could have never expected. We opened in 2011 when the concept of a paint studio and wine bar was unheard of. People thought we were a little crazy, but I promised them that once they gave it a try, they would be hooked! Fast forward to six years later and the concept has not only grown, but people LOVE it!

Has it been a smooth road?
Ha, smooth road?? Heck no…Business is all about adaptability. I have become very good at re-arranging…things don’t always go the way we expect, but how we react to those changes is what contributes to our growth. It is the hardest thing I have ever done….besides currently trying to raise a toddler 🙂

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Brush Bar is an art studio coupled with a wine bar. We take our customers through a creative experience, whether through painting or mixed media, in a lively group setting where we listen to music, have a drink (or two) and tap into the creative side of the brain.

We are best known for giving people an unexpected great night out. We are not your typical art class, our instructors are energetic, vibrant and have an “anything goes” attitude. We believe that every person possesses some amount of creativity, they just need the right tools to let it out. Our tools are no rules and a little wine 🙂 !

I am most proud of the team we’ve built. Every person is a piece of The Brush Bar and they are the reason people keep coming back.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Our city is great for an interactive, creative type of business. Our weather is gorgeous for about 9 months of the year and we have great tourist months with tons of people visiting. Our area is particularly great because of all of the other businesses around us. There are tons of galleries, shops and restaurants all within walking distance.

Phoenix is growing which is also great for new businesses. There are tons of new neighborhoods/developments popping up making it great for new small businesses.
