Meet Gary Chambers II of Fitness In Fitness Out (FIFO)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gary Chambers II.

Gary, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Gary M. Chambers II Owner & Operator Fitness In Fitness Out LLC. I attended Arizona State University on a full athletic scholarship and went on to receive my undergraduate degree in Exercise and Wellness while holding an active role on the ASU Football team. Post-college I went on to pursue a professional sports career entering the NFL as a wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills and various other professional organizations. I have since dedicated all of my time to performance training and playing a small part in helping athletes reach their full potential. I had always played sports and not until I got to college did I realize my skill was so raw. I had not fine-tuned any of the tools I possessed, much of it was growth and maturity but knowledge was the biggest.

Now that I have been taught and effectively used so much of the training I lacked, It’s a passion of mine to spread that to anyone working to get better and that is how FIFO came to be. I absolutely love what I do. I get to work with so many different sports teams and athletes around the world. I am a vendor to the high schools here in Arizona and do non-sports specific training with various high school programs from football, basketball, volleyball, and more. I travel and do flexibility & mobility sessions as well as 1on1 Stretches. I have been blessed enough to travel abroad and work with teams and athletes in various countries like Australia and Canada, and the journey continues. I have so much fun and learn something new everyday and always look forward to what the future brings.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been far from a smooth road to get where I am now. As an athlete, I have been told no more times than I can remember. I’ve been benched and cut, fired, so many times and that has honestly helped me in my pursuits as an entrepreneur. Much of what I do is getting out there and spreading the word through my work. Much of it takes hitting the ground running and connecting with people which isn’t always smooth. I am constantly continuing education which, although interesting, is tough to balance with living life and working. I’ve had to work multiple jobs while growing my business and I have had to starve myself of many different things trying to keep things going! It has been very hard at times but the payoff has been absolutely worth it.

Please tell us about Fitness In Fitness Out (FIFO).
Fitness In Fitness Out LLC focuses on performance training and mobility work. The overall goal is to increase athletic performance such as top-line speed, lateral movement, explosive and sudden movement, balance & coordination and to tie in all that a physical sport demands. To reach these goals we use training on a cross-platform with a focus on functional training. Essentially, finding the commonalities sport to sport and sharpening the tools it takes to improve those movements and skillsets. Much of the work is finding balance and power output, and helping athletes learn how to L&E, Load & Explode. We use strength training, plyometric training, and speed & agility training to improve general performance.

Equally important a major focus and something FIFO puts an emphasis on is Mobility. Functional training is the training of movements more than the development of a certain muscle or muscle group. To maximize our athletic ability and capitalize on those movements resulting in high-level performance, for an extended period of time, flexibility and mobility are major keys which many programs don’t key on.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
So many people deserve credit in helping me and continuing to help grow my business. First and foremost I have to thank God for giving me the ability to go after what I want, so many blessings in my life. My parents have been so supportive of me and have helped guide me in many tough situations I’ve faced. I have a very close group of friends who have pushed me to not slow down or stop striving for success. I have to thank many schools and clients for taking a chance and working with me, that trust and confidence in my work means the world. Lastly, so many people who didn’t believe in me or think I could accomplish some of the things I have and that doubt and negativity has been a major driving force in keeping that fire under me, I’ve always been a competitor and the thought of taking something further than anyone thought was possible excites me.
