Meet Gabe Ulibarri of RAH Coffee Company in Goodyear

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabe Ulibarri.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
David Martin, Todd Martin, and myself Gabe Ulibarri also a professional firefighter met in the U.S. Air Force early in our careers and have since remained longtime friends with all having 12-16 years of experience in the USAF, our company by the name of RAH Coffee Co which stands for “Real American Heroes”, was created during a six month deployment overseas, but our friendship and service has been longer. During our deployment last year to the middle east we would meet up after our long days of work to have discussions over coffee, tell stories of Americas Heroes, and talk about creating a business one day. Being three proud U.S. Air Force members who would meet up for coffee in our deployed location to talk about our travels, people we met, and what being a Hero really is and we wanted to find a way to share these amazing stories with others. We would talk about a firefighter I knew who pulled six people from a raging apartment fire in Mesa AZ, to the veterans we met who saw combat in Afghanistan, to a firefighter I met in New York who was first to witness the events unfold on 9/11. These stories were from people we served alongside with and people we met along the way. So as coffee became our time to reflect on telling stories of back home and the real American heroes we’ve met so did our passion to creating a brand of Real American Heroes. We wanted a brand that people can relate to and be proud to support especially as a local Arizona veteran-owned company. We are proud to say that in the year we have been in business we have created a following of military members, first responders, and working professionals that continually support our brand. SIP, HONOR, & SERVE…

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been interesting we started a business not having any prior experience, but have been fortunate in meeting people at the right time and have assisted us in expanding our brand and seeing our vision. Our military service has also been a vital part in our success, from high-stress operations, to management and leadership.  It has fortunately been the same in business as we complete the mission no matter what it takes and continue to make lasting relationships with other entrepreneurs in Arizona.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the RAH Coffee Company story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a proud veteran owned coffee company who works with a local Coffee roaster in North Phoenix that roasts four specialty blends for us and made to order. Each of these specialty blends have a meaning behind them. The Light Roast-Booter Blend is for firefighters, The Medium Roast-MSR Tampa is to recognize the U.S. Military, The Hero Blend-Dark Roast is to recognize Police officers, and the Jet Fuel-Dark Roast is to remember our Air Force Heritage. We are proud of our military service and our service to the community, it is our mission to give back and we donate 3% of all sales to local charities and community events.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think as smaller owned local coffee businesses begin to expand nationally we will be on the forefront of it. We want to expand our On-line presence nationally and eventually go into custom-designed coffee shops that further enhances our mission to give back.
