Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolyn Anger.
Carolyn, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Since I can remember, I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. When I was younger and people would ask me, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” my answer was “I want to start a business.”
When I turned 16, I jumped into the retail world and stayed there until my last year of college. After a late night of scouring the internet trying to find my next “big move,” I landed an internship at a Scottsdale based beauty and lifestyle website. A small business, the owner took me under her wing and sparked my enthusiasm for writing. Playing tug of war between retail and writing, the big decision came down to the summer after college when I balanced the Nordstrom summer internship and the editorial internship simultaneously. As you can probably guess, writing took the cake.
After college, I stayed with that company as a full-time editorial contributor and also got to dip my toes into event planning and public relations. From there, I made the switch to marketing full-time by stepping into the ad agency realm where I managed public relations, social media and digital marketing campaigns for an array of local and national companies. With the ability to utilize my writing background and pursue my passion for brands, I finally found the perfect mix.
Fast forward to 2016, my freelance workload was growing, and I felt like I had the knowledge and experience to venture out on my own. From there, I founded Fayte Marketing and I’ve never looked back.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Yes and no. I am incredibly grateful for the core base of clients that have stuck with me from the very beginning. They have undeniably helped make the road a lot smoother than it could have been. The hardest part for me was losing the security of a steady paycheck. In the beginning, I was scraping by to keep the lights on. Even today, I still sometimes struggle with the idea of not having the guaranteed benefits of a nine to five. I’ve had to readjust my mindset to focus on doing the best work I can for my clients each and every day, instead of future tripping on the “what if’s.”
Tell us more about your work.
Fayte Marketing is a boutique marketing firm specializing in all aspects of digital advertising including branding, graphic design, social media, SEO, public relations, ad buying and more. I am a big believer in staying small. With a team of experts who I trust and believe are the best of the best, I can provide consistent, high quality work. Having a retail background, I also value customer experience. When a client comes on board, I don’t hand them over to someone else then disappear. I stay connected to each and every company I work with, meaning that I am in meetings, on weekly calls and work alongside my team to make sure each client’s brand is noticed and their message is heard by the right audience.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Let’s be honest, when I first started, there was luck combined with a whole lot of hard work. Business owners took a big chance by trusting a brand spanking new company without a solid track record. Now, many of our clients come to us as referrals which gives me the confidence to believe that we’re doing something right.
