Today we’d like to introduce you to Ethan Foxx.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ethan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began performing professionally as a vocalist at age 15 with Gadzooks. Since then, I have produced and released music as a recording artist with Sweatin’ Blood, Afterlife, Rokyn, Foxx, and as a solo artist. I am a lead vocalist as my primary focus, but I also play guitar, bass, and drums. I presently perform as a solo artist, as well as with the following tribute and cover bands: KansAZ A Tribute to Kansas; Blizzard of AZ, a tribute to Randy Rhoads era Ozzy Osbourne; Keep On Believin’ and Rubicon, tributes to Journey; Americana, performing timeless hits of the 60s and 70s; 3rd Rock, acoustic trio; Rum Runners, performing classic rock hits.
I have recently published my first novel, Earthkeeper: Awakening at Spider Rock, through Knowing Owl Publications. The second installment in the Earthkeeper series, Global Reset, is due to be released in April 2018. Also available through Knowing Owl Publications are canvas prints and greeting cards featuring my fine art.
As fine artist, I work with several mediums: Oil, Acrylic, and Airbrush. The themes I explore the most are visionary/metaphysical, landscapes, and wildlife. I also handcraft traditional shaman’s drums and paint the rawhide skins with animal totems. I am available by commission for canvas paintings and large scale murals, custom drums, and graphic/book design (cover and interior formats). I have also recently begun silversmithing fine jewelry and shamanic animal totem amulets.
I am available for private art instruction and vocal coaching. For the last few years, I have been teaching art and history in an underprivileged, at-risk setting, yet I have remained steadily busy singing, recording, writing, and painting. It can be quite a challenge carving out time to devote to the pursuit of so many passions. Rather than working progressively on each, I often find myself flooded with inspiration to focus on one creative outlet at a time. I become completely immersed and quite prolific in one medium, then switch gears to express myself in another way.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the challenges in my music career has been the ebb and flow and interpersonal dynamics that come along with the collaborative process. I have been fortunate to have made lifelong connections in a network with other professional musicians. Many of the players I perform with rotate in and out of several of the projects I am involved with and we often contribute session work on each other’s projects. The biggest challenge to my creative process in general is time management. Rather than following a set schedule, inspiration strikes anytime and anywhere. When the muse calls, it is not always feasible to answer. My greatest wish is to earn enough from my creative endeavors to buy back my freedom and carve out more hours in the day to devote to the process.
Ethan Foxx Creative and Knowing Owl Publications – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
What sets the work I do through Ethan Foxx Creative Services apart from others is my diversity of talents. My background as a teacher, along with the extensive study of history and the world’s cultures, as well as my personal interest in human potential and self-improvement have provided a unique and deeply personal flavor to my music, and my written and visual work.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I am most proud of my literary work in the Earthkeeper series.
