Meet Esmeralda De La Rosa Verdy of Doularosa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Esmeralda De La Rosa Verdy.

Hi Esmeralda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I was fortunate to see my mom, aunts, and grandmother encourage and care for other women during pregnancy and childbirth. I felt a solid tug to be a birth worker in high school, and I explored many options in the years to follow. I researched professions like midwifery, obstetrics, and nursing, but after years of schooling, Doula’s work was where I found the most freedom and joy. I became a certified Birth Doula in September of 2021. I have been able to work several corporate jobs as I went to school, and nothing compares to serving women in the most vulnerable time of their lives. Being a part of childbirth is euphoric and life-changing every single time. I witness love at first sight and hold space for parents experiencing a cocktail of emotions. In January of 2022, I created my own LLC, and now I can happily run my small Doula business as a birth worker.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any upcoming small business, there will always be trial and error. Doularosa has experienced very busy seasons and also some drier seasons. What you put into your business is what you get out of it, and I have had my share of dry spells when it comes to being an entrepreneur. As soon as I created my LLC, I found out I was pregnant, and I dedicated the next 9 months to being a student of my craft. It was a slow and challenging period for me trying to juggle the harder moments of pregnancy and a business that needed time and effort. People need to realize that as a business owner, you are also responsible for marketing, running a website, creating contracts and content for your clients, etc. It is more than just attending births; you need the discipline and knowledge to run every part of the business. After I had my daughter, I wanted to dive back into the administrative part of the business, but I needed to figure out where to start. Fortunately for me, my husband has a degree in business and was able to create my website and contracts. We have functioned as a team whenever Doularosa has encountered bumps in the road. In the business world, you have to learn how to outsource for you to be able to dedicate time to your craft, and that’s exactly what we have begun to do to have a smoother road.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a bilingual Birth Doula located in Avondale, Arizona, serving West Valley and East Valley families. For those who may not be familiar with what a Doula is, I am a birth coach who educates, supports, and guides women through pregnancy and childbirth. Many women’s laboring experience concludes with nurses walking in and out of their rooms and doctors coming in at the very last moment to catch a baby. As a Birth Doula, I make sure that I stay with Mom for the entirety of her labor helping her with pain relief techniques educating her on how to promote labor and I am a safe space when things get tough emotionally.

Many people will say that the goal of childbirth is a healthy baby and a healthy mom, but women’s care has to go beyond that. Women deserve a joy-filled birth experience that allows them to feel empowered, and that is what sets me apart. Every Doula has their style, and I like to offer childbirth education, bodywork, and birth plan services. My goal for every woman I work with is for them to feel heard, empowered, and educated. Being a Birth Doula is more than just showing up on the day of your labor; it is about all the preparation and education you provide to a mom before she goes into labor. I am proud of the prenatal content I have created leading up to birth, and I am always taking courses to provide more value to my services.

So, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you before we go? How can they support you?
The best way to work with or collaborate with me is to visit my website, doularosa.com, and send me an inquiry. My website has full descriptions and breakdowns of my services and prices. The best way to support me is to follow me on my social media platforms and reshare my posts. I am active on Instagram and Tiktok as @esmiedoularosa, and I am always trying to post my content or share other educational posts that are helpful to women.
