Meet Erin Ward of Erin Ashley Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Ward.

Erin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started pursuing photography as a career after my son was born. I’ve always had a passion for taking photos, I used to stage shoots with my little sisters and take photos on my mom’s old film camera. Growing up, my best friend’s mom was a wedding photographer and would take me with her to help out.

Once my son was born, I knew I wanted to capture all of those fleeting moments so I practiced on him for a while and then did shoots with friends and family before I finally started advertising as a professional. I have learned so much in these last three years!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a lot of trial and error! Art is subjective, and it took me a while before I realized that there was no “right” or “wrong” way to create my art. I have struggled with finding my style as a photographer, you see so many editing fads come and go and it’s easy to lose yourself in whats trendy. However, I have really gotten into a flow this last year and found what works for me so it’s been great!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Erin Ashley Photography – what should we know?
I specialize in portraiture and wedding photography. I love shooting kids and families, having two kids of my own I can really connect with kids and get great laughs and smiles.

I also adore weddings, being able to tell someone’s love story through my photos is one of the most rewarding parts of my job! I think what sets me apart from others in this industry is also what I’m most proud of, I always overdeliver and do my job %110. I really have such a passion for what I do and when someone hires me, I love to exceed their expectations and make it a really fun experience!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I am super passionate about capturing memories, I love connecting with people and seeing true emotions in my work. I think part of my success is due to having fun with my clients and making it memorable! There’s never a dull moment. I love to keep my clients laughing. I always include any silly outtakes in my client’s galleries, they make for some of the best photos and I’ve found my clients really appreciate the humor.
