Meet Erica Hernandez of Cosmoerica @ Salon VIP in Goodyear

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Hernandez.

Erica, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Almost ten years ago, I was searching for direction in my life! I needed a change and was so sick of working in retail. I knew I needed to find something that I wouldn’t dread doing every day. I decided to go to beauty school. At the time, I thought I was just getting a trade under my belt that would be a stepping stone to something else. Little did I know, I would fall absolutely in love with Cosmetology.

Now almost ten years later, I could never look back. I’m constantly pushing forward to grow as a stylist and as a professional. I went back to school a few years ago and finished a small business management certification program in hopes to one day own my very own salon. Going into the salon every day doesn’t feel like “work”. I make people feel beautiful and I see my clients through the highs and lows of life. You are there to help them feel their best through prom, graduation, their wedding, and even just when they need a little pick me up. It is an amazing feeling to see someone light up because of what you created with your very own hands. I’m blessed to have the most amazing and supportive clientele, family, and friends. They make it possible for me to do what I love!

Has it been a smooth road?
Finding the right salon environment would be the biggest bump in the road I had. I feel like I wasn’t able to grow as a stylist until I moved to my home salon now, Salon VIP. I’ve been here for almost five years now. The support the salon gives me is amazing and my fellow stylist are all so talented. We are a family and support each other’s growth.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a stylist at Salon VIP in Goodyear, Az. I am a stylist and a manager. I get to work behind the chair and also be apart of the management team. I specialize in Color, Balayage, and Color Correction. I pride myself in doing these color processes and keeping my client’s hair healthy! I feel my hand-painted balayage is my specialty and it sets me apart.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think the Cosmetology industry will only grow from here. With the influence from social media, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube there is only room for growth.
