Meet Emily Price of MadeForMaddie in Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Price.

Emily, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always loved being crafty, but after having my daughter Madison in 2010, my love for crafting went from a hobby to a business adventure! I opened my Etsy shop MadeForMaddie in August of 2011 where I began selling all the things I loved to create for Madison; hair bows, baby wipe cases and baby accessories. About a year later I purchased my first embroidery machine and have flourished in that aspect of my business ever since! I began making custom Tooth Fairy Pillows in 2014 and it has become my favorite item to create!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been ups and downs. I am grateful for both as they have helped me grow as a maker and an individual. Having your own business is not for the faint of heart, it is a lot of tears, cheers and work. The maker part of the business has always been the easiest or the most fun. Trying new things has been my fix to any creative lulls I have felt along the way. The actual business side of things has always been where I struggle the most. My business is home based so finding the balance between work and family time can be difficult at times. Marketing my business is something else that I have learned a lot about over the years. I am much more assertive and have stepped out of my comfort zone tremendously over the years.

Please tell us about your business.
MadeForMaddie specializes in custom Tooth Fairy Pillows. I take the most pride in these as the designs are the original creation of mine. I have had the honor of making thousands of them over the years which is crazy to think about. Knowing I was a part of the Tooth Fairy experience for so many kids is awesome. The positive feedback I receive from parents makes my day every single time. I am truly blessed with this opportunity. When I’m not making Tooth Fairy Pillows, I create cloth dolls, birthday shirts, baby wipe cases and other embroidered items. I have several business clients that I embroider logos for as well.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I have had several moments throughout my business journey that I thought ‘it truly cannot get better than this’! I have had the opportunity to create items for clients that reach a platform that I am awe struck over. I have met goals I never thought would be attainable. I am proud of so many aspects of this journey and I look forward to many more!
