Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Hughes.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started doing hair when I was in high school as a hobby and loved it! I tried doing other things and nothing stuck like doing hair did. I knew it was a profession that I could take anywhere with my love of travel! I finally went to beauty school and got my license. After years in a salon, living abroad, getting married and growing a family, I naturally transitioned into the wedding industry by getting to know a local make-up artist who encouraged me to jump into the industry full-force! I’m glad she believed in me. In my first year I did 13 weddings and in my 2nd and 3rd year I have more than doubled that number of weddings! Let’s just say that as a wife and a mom of 3 beautiful kiddos, life is busy owning a small business! I love what I do and I am so thankful to be able to have a professional and creative outlet!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting my business was such an easy decision. I had so many wedding inquiries even when working in the salon environment that I knew if I put more time into it that it would be a natural transition. And it was! I have had very few challenges along the way. I don’t think I would even call them challenges but insecurities! I know I am gifted at what I do but the wedding service industry is no joke! It’s a good thing all of my brides are so kind and have beautiful hearts.

I am the owner and founder of Hair by Emily Hughes. I do hair for brides. I specialize in bridal styles and specialize in updos. They are my favorite! I have a very wide variety of styles I can do and I am most proud of my style when a bride feels like the bride she always imagined in her mind!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I love what I do! I would love to grow my business in the future by training and hiring associates but as a mom of 3 littles, that day is probably further away than it is near in the future. As for now connecting with my brides and doing what I am doing is fulfilling and I’ll keep going until life changes.
