Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Goff and Brandon Luthy.
Emily and Brandon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The idea of Arizona Zipline Adventures was born in 2014 when Brandon, myself and my father came together to re-envision a piece of property that was then our family cattle ranch. Brandon had experience building and creating while I had experience facilitating ropes courses and zip lines. It was a combination of talents that we decided to put to use in hopes of enriching our community and promoting awareness of the area. We began work right away the permitting and building process took until January 2016, which is when we first opened our doors for business.
Since then, our business has evolved in more ways than we can count. We now have an incredible zipline course with breath-taking views, a delicious quick-serve restaurant called Peppersauce Kitchen, a beautiful and quirky facility, and have hosted events ranging from sip & paint nights to steak cookouts to gravel grinder bike races. We have gained an immense amount of knowledge over the past five years, and we are very much looking forward to what lies ahead for us.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is there such a thing as a smooth road when you are opening a business? I think that every business struggles in its regard and ours are no different. The most difficult thing for us has seemed to be extending our reach beyond our local community. We have a number of loyal, dedicated customers who come back time after time and help spread the word about this place that we love so much, but reaching those who don’t know someone who has been here or are just visiting for the weekend has proven to be a real challenge for us.
Please tell us about your business.
Arizona Zipline Adventures has many facets beyond what our name implies. We provide a Zipline EcoTour through the Sonoran Desert that allows people to push themselves while getting to experience the local flora and fauna, Teambuilding activities for corporate, school, sports, and organizational groups, Caving tours beneath the Catalina Mountains, many Community-Based Events throughout the year, and an Award-Winning Kitchen! We serve individuals and groups; people 5 years old to 95 years old have ziplined with us, groups as large of 300 have dined with us, and thousands have simply taken in the incredible views with us. Our mission is “To enrich the community and promote the enjoyment and exploration of the region,” and we believe that there are many ways that we are doing that.
The thing that I am most proud of is that in everything that we do, we do with intention and heart. Our entire staff believes in our mission and their individual “why” for working here. We have a community-minded culture and it shows the moment you step foot onto our property. – Emily
There are many things that I’m proud of, especially the accomplishments of my partner, the staff, and myself have made. Our hard work and dedication has paid off with an incredible staff, an award-winning restaurant, and first-place rankings in the state of Arizona. Putting so many smiles on people’s faces that comes through the doors of Arizona Zipline Adventures makes it all worth it. -Brandon
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Having grown up on a working cattle ranch, I can honestly say that I do not have just one favorite memory, but instead, a vast number of memories that were made each day that I was able to spend outside with my family in a place that I love! -Emily
I grew up next to my mother and my grandmother in our family restaurant where many memories were made and delicious food was prepared. I believe that those memories from my childhood helped make what is a wonderful restaurant here at Arizona Zipline Adventures. – Brandon
