Meet Emily Bowers of B MVMNT Studio in North Scottsdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Bowers.

Emily, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My journey with Buti Yoga started about three years ago in Lake Charles, LA. I was hooked from my first class. I grew up a dancer and craved that energy so badly. The music and energetic connection were almost overwhelming for me at that time in my life. I was 18 and starting to discover myself, and Buti played such a huge role in this. They say Buti finds you when you need it, and I believe this to the core.

After practicing one class a week for four months, my instructor encouraged me to get certified. I immediately rejected the idea because of various roadblocks in my head–fear of rejection, judgment from my good ole southern family, criticism from my partner at the time. I thought about it constantly but didn’t go through with it, and as the training passed, I felt a bit of regret. So when my instructor came to me with news of a scheduling fluke and another training happening, I immediately jumped on it. I’m so grateful I did because that weekend changed my life. I was the youngest person there, but I was all in. The amount of love and support in that room helped me to see my path.

I got certified April 27th, 2017, starting teaching the following week, and made my personal goal to share that same love and support with as many as I could. My classes started small with one, maybe two people, sometimes none. After about a year, I had the largest class in that studio. My students were my family. Over the course of that year, I went to a training, convention, or retreat almost every month just trying to educate myself as much as possible. I got my 200 HR Yoga Teacher Training and traveled all over the country connecting with people from all walks of life. I also went with six of my students to get certified to continue growing the local tribe. I ended up removing myself from that toxic relationship, really growing as an individual, and moving to Austin, TX on October 16th, 2018. I had the opportunity to hit reset and try something new, so I went for it.

While in Austin, I taught four classes per week and had a part-time job. I was trying to grow the community in Austin just like I had in Lake Charles, but I knew that was going to take more time than I wanted to spend. After about a month and a half of exhausting myself, I went to Scottsdale for a Buti Bands and Sculpt training at Buti Yoga Headquarters. I didn’t even know Bizzie Gold (the founder of Buti) was leading the training, but it was the best surprise. At the end of the training, I thanked her for her knowledge, and she complimented my growth and offered me a job at the B MVMNT Studio in NYC. I was speechless! When we touched base after Christmas, she informed me that she was opening a B MVMNT studio in Scottsdale and asked if I would prefer the desert. Because I am not a snowbird, I happily accepted. So, I packed up my life in Austin and moved to Phoenix on March 25th, 2019! Now, I’m the Studio Supervisor as well as an instructor at B MVMNT. I love my job and am so excited for what’s to come! I’ve started my 300 HR, will be auditioning to be a Master Trainer in two weeks, and plan to start organizing retreats for 2020! My passion is creating leaders and empowering others to take responsibility for their lives and their happiness, and that is exactly what I will continue to do.

Has it been a smooth road?
It was not a smooth road, but it was a clear one. I knew this was my passion from the first training I went to, but the path was rocky. Most of the struggles were projections from other people. “You’re too young.” “You’ll never make a career out of this.” “You need to do something else.”

Luckily, I am one to stay pretty true to myself and proved all of those statements wrong.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
We wanted to create a space that’s an all-in-one, just like our workouts, so we created B MVMNT Studio. All B MVMNT classes feature infrared heating towers that gently warm and detoxify the body while utilizing dynamic asana, primal movement, and vibration to help release stored trauma and stimulate cellular regeneration to catalyze healing for ALL bodies. Music guides our classes like an internal GPS – no more eight counts or reps, no more choreography. The beat blended movement forces you out of your head and into your body. Every single class is unique. We are honored to have created the grounded environment & energetic space for you to make yourself feel at home and connect deeply with the staff and students. This is the movement of WE. All human beings included – no size, shape, age, color, or gender restrictions. No matter where you are in your journey, we want this to be a second home to you.

In the studio, we also have a paleo supplement line to fuel your workouts, a sustainable clothing line for you to feel amazing in your body, an infrared sauna to detox on your rest day, and soon we’ll have a sound bed for our members to experience all of the benefits of vibrational therapy and sound healing. As I said, we wanted to create a space fully equipped for our community to experience healing on all levels, and I believe we’ve done just that.

My role here is to maintain the vibe and keep it going smoothly. I love taking the time to educate people on our class formats and tailoring to the intention of the individual student. Everyone is on a different journey with different goals, and I want to assist in any way that I can. I teach every class format with passion and try to bring out the leader in every person that walks through the door. I want everyone to know they are heard and have a place to express themselves. No judgement, no conformity – just love.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The plan is to franchise B MVMNT Studio and give butisattvas everywhere the ability to create this environment anywhere. Keep spreading the love.
