Meet Emilie Ma of Modern Women in Chandler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emilie Ma.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Emilie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Modern Women is a student-led humanitarian relief project aimed towards women’s rights to reproductive health. By making menstrual products more easily available and increasing discourse about female anatomy, we are destigmatizing the fight to improve the holistic health of women in the states. Every year, we devise a plan to aid a target population, especially Native American menstruators. We run fundraisers, donate feminine products in hygiene care packages, partner up with local clinics and reservations. We hope to bridge the gap between access to female hygiene products and low-income menstruators with its efforts.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
With our core team of 10 people, we’ve been able to affect change as smoothly as possible. So far, we have student members spanning across the nation and around the world.

We’d love to hear more about the organization.
We are dedicated to bringing menstrual equity to all around the globe, through working to implement permanent, free dispensers in public facilities and donating period care packages to impoverished menstruators. So far, we’ve donated over 2100 products and have members from around Arizona, across ten states and territories and around the world. As an organization, we’re proud to say that we’ve been able to grow and learn from our mistakes while enacting change as students.
