Today we’d like to introduce you to Emerson Senseman.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I wish I had a really cool and different story about how I came into photography. The truth is: I was craving a new hobby. In early 2016, I started doing way too much research on cameras. I then decided on the Canon t6i. A couple of months later, I met three guys at church who were into photography and taught me everything I know now.
Photography quickly went from a hobby to a passion. I later decided to sell my Canon and switched over to the Sony Mirrorless System. From there I started shooting senior photos for some people at work. Word got around that I take photos and the rest is history. This shows that hustle, passion, and personality can take a hobby to a new level.
Please tell us about your art.
I have dabbled in many types of photography, just as everyone has. I love to document people, whether they are happy, sad, and everything in between. Every picture tells a story, although it is up to each person’s interpretation to decide what is going on. I don’t necessarily want to portray a specific message with my photos. I want whoever is observing them to come up with their own. Unlike many photographers, I don’t have a specific style of editing. I like to edit each photo from scratch to make it stand out from the rest of my work. I don’t want all my photos to look the same.
What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
In a way, it has become easier and also harder for artists to stand out. Everyone and their dog take pictures. Which is good! I love seeing more and more people enjoy the art of Photography. Due to the vast amount people taking photos, it has created more competition. It is good to have other people to challenge you and the way you present your work. Phoenix itself has many places to post up your artwork. You just need to know where to look.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can go to my website EmersonSenseman.com and my Instagram @Emerson_senseman. You can support my work just by showing it to people and friends. I will eventually have prints to buy from my website!
