Meet Elle Heavin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elle Heavin.

Elle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I spent most of my childhood secluded from city life and culture in the small city of Rock Springs, Wyoming. My mother, a landscape photographer, and my father an avid lover of nature and natural-born adventurer, I feel fortunate that these qualities helped to shape me as a person and certainly my design style. No matter how structured or technical the construction of one of my designs may be, it never really feels like one of my pieces until it also hints to the fluidity and beautiful unpredictability of nature. As much as a gift as that has been, for as long as I can recall I’ve felt a pull towards the electricity (literally and figuratively) of the major metropolitan areas.

With that said, I’ve been lucky enough to work with some fantastic industry professionals along the way. I still see myself as a small struggling clothing designer, but I’m always amazed when I reflect on where I’ve already been, my work has been worn on the red carpet in Hollywood, runways in Japan, used as promotional material for major casinos in Las Vegas, featured in music videos, and my one of personal favorites, shot gorgeously in the glorious landscapes of Iceland!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s never been easy, but it’s always been a labor of love and I can’t imagine doing my life any differently. It’s been quite a journey, that’s for sure!

In the beginning, it was simply a matter of exposure and capital. What my family lacked in finances, they made up tenfold in love. I’ve never dwelled on money, other than knowing that it could present more opportunity to spread the word about my brand and artistic vision. It’s such a thrill when someone reaches out to me to let me how much my works have resonated with them.

In May of 2017, I was lucky enough to have my son, Bastion. As has been the case most of my life, my direct experiences tend to make their way into my work. When Bastion was born, I immediately branched out from my usual flowing gowns, bridal and intimates, to also include kidswear.

A little after a year into Bastion’s life his father and I began to notice some behavior that we struggled to explain. Promptly after that, Bastion, was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

He is the most beautiful, joyous wonderful child, but it can certainly be difficult at times. My rate of design work, both in term of creating and producing, has had to slow considerably so that I can feel certain I am doing everything possible for my unique little man.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a Fashion Designer, a creator, an artist and a fighter. I design womenswear, lingerie, and bridal gowns.
My favorite thing to create is couture gowns because every single one is unique in a way all its own, with a supremely high level of detail, craftsmanship and a dash of whimsy.

My internal world is rich with fantasies and tales; it’s important to me to breath that essence and narrative into the life of my designs with each and every stitch.

I don’t want to just create a piece of clothing; I feel the need to create a story, a feeling, a mood. I want the person that wears my clothing to feel transcended from the everyday struggles we all face.
