Meet Elijah Muhammad of Techniques Barbershop in The Biltmore Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elijah Muhammad.

Elijah, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My mother is the only daughter of eight children and out of her seven brothers, there were at least three that had experience cutting hair. I gravitated towards and developed a love for cutting hair. At 13, I started cutting friends and family in the basement of my grandmother’s home on Detroit’s North end. There were many popular haircuts & styles at that time and I was able to get a lot of practice. I’ve always wanted to challenge myself to consistently produce good quality haircuts and service. Fast forward 2019, I continue to work to provide the best possible service I can. The biggest room continues to be the room for improvement as perfection continues to be the goal.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I believe most things of value will come with challenges or obstacles attached, but to stay the course refusing to abort the process allows us to run the marathon and to eventually attain the goal.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Techniques Barbershop – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am a licensed cosmetologist specializing in the skill of barbering. I believe my clients are best qualified to describe what sets me apart from others. Things that are important to me are consistency, being dependable, respectful etc.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memories from childhood will always consist of moments spent with family and friends.
