Meet Dylan Joseph of Understand Soccer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Joseph.

Dylan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hey soccer players, parents, and coaches, my name’s Dylan Joseph. I had a great job as a soccer trainer helping players develop their skills and more importantly, build their confidence. However, it was hard to help a lot of people when I worked with small groups, so I became an online soccer trainer. I help players and coaches know exactly what skills to use in each game situation, how to score more goals and avoid getting nervous before a game or when the ball is passed to you. I’ve helped 10,000s of players, coaches, and parents using YouTube videos and the 14-book Understand Soccer series available on Amazon. On this channel, you’ll learn the different ways to shoot, how to take a touch to have more time, space, and confidence; so you can get more assists, score more goals, and make a huge impact in every game. There I was, a soccer player who had difficulties scoring. I wanted to be the best on the field but lacked the confidence and know-how to make my goal a reality. Every day, I dreamed about improving, but the average coaching and my lack of knowledge only left me feeling alone and like I couldn’t attain my goal. I was a quiet player whose performances often went unnoticed.

This all changed after my junior year on the Varsity soccer team of one of the largest high schools in the state. During the team and parent banquet at the end of the season, my coach decided to say something nice about each player. When it became my turn to receive praise, the only thing he came up with was that I had scored two goals that season against a lousy team, so they didn’t really count…

It was a very painful statement that after the 20+ game season, all that could be said of my efforts were two goals that didn’t count. Since that moment, I have been forever changed considering one of my greatest fears came true; I was called out in front of my family and friends. Because of that, I got serious. With the help of a soccer mentor, I focused on the training necessary to become the goal scorer I always dreamed of being. The next season, after just a few months, I found myself moved up to the starting position of center midfielder and scored my first goal of the 26 game season in only the third game.

I kept up the additional training led by a proven goal scorer to build my knowledge. Fast forward to present day and as a result of the work on the skills necessary, I figured out how to become a goal scorer who averages about two goals and an assist per game, all because of an increase in my understanding of how to play soccer. With the help of a SOCCER MENTOR, I was able to take my game from a bench-warmer who was called out in front of everybody to the most confident player on the field.

The core of the business is providing how-to soccer information for players, parents, and coaches seeking knowledge to help build their skills and skyrocket their confidence. The information comes in the form on the Understand Soccer book series on Amazon. This series is currently eight books, but another six books are in various stages of the publishing process. Furthermore, there is a YouTube channel with new weekly videos to complement the books and help those players, parents, and coaches who prefer to learn visually.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment have been all the great emails/feedback I’ve gotten from players who improved their confidence, parents who signed up to coach their child’s team and used the Understand Soccer series books to help their teams excel, and even having directors of soccer clubs recommend my books series to all their coaches because of the immediate impact that it had on the teams they coached.
