Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Chan.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My business was a result of going freelance in the year 2020 after my design internship came to an abrupt halt. Just when I thought I was on the path to corporate life, alas my work of self-employment had begun. Since then, there has been no turning back. Instead of taking comfort in steady pay, I’ve learned to thrive on monthly uncertainty.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been smoother than most others, including myself, would expect.
There would come, during the lull moments, a day or two of existential panic. But no more than that. Sounds better than your everyday job right? Where people seem to experience panic on a daily.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the Founder and Designer of YEYE Design Studio. I run the studio along with my husband, Matthew Roop, who is also a graphic designer.
Our specialty is typography and branding. He’s great with animation and motion graphics, while I’m more attuned to illustration and drawing. Together, we provide a vast ocean of services for anyone with graphic design needs.
We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is having the wisdom to know what you’re meant to control, and what you’re not. It’s knowing when to let go, and when to take reign.
It’s being able to weather the dry months when there are not enough clients, and being able to brave the sudden rush of work that comes at you. It’s being unafraid of failure itself.
