Meet Dustin Dluhy of Az Pro Rents in North Phoenix and Deer Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dustin Dluhy.

Dustin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
There were a few contributors to our creation. My high school friend and I would often talk business, what we liked and didn’t like about whatever topic related to a company we had read about, etc. We began joking about starting a business. Then one day, after the Joke was made, I laughed, then said but really, we should! We went for it, that following week we were sitting in Jason’s deli dreaming up what became AZ Pro Rents. It’s been an interesting and eventful journey so far with all kinds of stories along the way. September marked 5 years. We’re turning a profit, building a clientele, making some pretty cool connections, meeting some brilliant people. It’s been exciting!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting a business out of high school definitely has its challenges. Running a business out of college poses similar. Mix all this in with the whole “what do you want to do for the rest of your life” questions that every recently graduated high schooler contemplates doesn’t make sticking in one direction easy. I was full of ideas and vision but really struggled with the discipline and self-confidence to really push this thing forward quickly. It was becoming a part time, late night, unprofitable hobby. This changed of course, but it took focus and some great mentors. I’m thankful for the lessons I learned, but even more thankful for those that helped me take the training wheels off the bike and showed me how to go in a direction, any direction. Some of the biggest challenges I had to face was not letting my emotions rival a direction I was heading. I see a lot of people my age does that. They ride their bikes in circles.

Arizona Production Rentals (AZ Pro Rents) is an event rental and production company. We specialize in providing Audio-Visual and custom lighting type services to Weddings, Corporate Professionals, and Individuals. We also offer a great deal of party rental items too, such as tables & chairs. As cliché as it may sound, we are most proud of the happy customers we serve. Take weddings for an example, we work with a lot of engaged couples. The services we provide create a setting. Every great story has a setting. Everything from the music, lighting, seating and centerpieces all come together and play a part in a story. The story of the bride & groom. How exciting to become part of that story! I think what sets us apart is that we are really combining two companies in one- AV Production with Party rentals. These are two business that go hand- in hand yet no one is doing it on any real scale.

What were you like growing up?
I was the engineering type. Always asking questions, always trying to understand how things worked. I found water hoses and electricity more interesting than toddler toys. My Grandfather used to joke with me and say I was only allowed to ask him 3 questions a day. In grade school I had friends that liked to sing. It gave me a reason to build little sets and hang lights or wire up speakers so we could throw on a production. My first job was working maintenance at a nursing home, I loved working on projects and fixing things. My job was my hobby.
