Today we’d like to introduce you to Dorsell Lyrics.
Dorsell, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started with a vision. My vision years ago was to position myself to train people physically and mentally and become the number one motivational speaker in the world. I had no idea how I was going to get there. I just knew I was very determined and motivated. I also knew in that position I could help people all over the world. I am passionate about working out but more passionate about helping people mentally. Things happen unexpectedly in this place we call life.
At an early age, I started my own personal training business. I worked diligently to help people achieve their physical goals. It was while doing this that the importance of mental training became more and more clear to me.
I often noticed while I was training my clients that they would hit that “I can’t” brick wall. “I can’t do this!” “I can’t do this, it’s too hard!” I would just give them words of encouragement. I would tell them that they CAN do it and they just have to refocus their thoughts and understand they’re stronger than what they give themselves credit for. I would tell them that I would never give up on you, so I will never let you give up on yourself. Inevitably, with that encouragement, they were able to push through that wall and get the workout done. I would walk them through it and help them understand that your only competition is yourself.
That brick wall is what brought it home for me and showed me the importance of mental training and that it is needed. Essentially, mental and physical training go hand in hand. I realize I’m the person to provide that service.
I believe that mental training is more important than physical training. That’s just my thoughts because mental training we can apply to our everyday life. Physical is just going to the gym working out physically and trying to stay physically fit. What we fail to realize is that when you apply the mental training you are giving yourself mental exercise that you can apply throughout everyday life. I am teaching you the physical aspect of your body through a workout process. I’m also transforming your mind mentally and giving you the tools that you can use to apply in your everyday life through all situations.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Everybody has challenges in obstacles, and it has been a ride, but it has been a good ride. Some of the good times I had as a trainer was seeing my clients’ reactions and the responses on their faces after achieving a goal that they set out to accomplish. They accomplished it by putting in the hard work. At the same time, some of my memories were watching my clients have emotional meltdowns saying that they can’t do it. Clients would talk about how people in their life that they trust it never had an opportunity to see them for who they were, which caused them to go into a downward spiral. This was a challenge for me because I had to take this broken soul, help them find the pieces and put them back together. I also help them see their value and help them understand their worth. It was the most amazing challenge that I could have had to transform this person and help them find themselves. To uplift them and give them their value back, give them their worth, teach them how to walk upright with their head held high and not be ashamed about anything. I helped them to never let someone, family or friend. Whoever it is come into your life and dictate your life and tell you what you can and cannot do. At the end of the day, it’s how bad do you want it. We can’t let other people’s opinions affect our movement in our own life. This is an ongoing challenge that I face daily with my clients.
One of my struggles was getting the word out that I can help people focus on more than just their physical. This day and age it seems like people put more into their physical and forget about the mental aspect of it, not knowing the balance it can bring into your life. I struggled mentally a couple of years ago when my child was born with complications that caused her to be hospitalized for the first six months of her life. Not knowing day to day if she was going to survive, I feared the unknown. It took a toll on me physically and mentally. I was completely drained and lost my job in the process. You can guess where my stress level was. In a situation that I had no control of I had to keep control of the one thing that I could, which was me and how I had to remind myself on a daily basis that I had to be strong mentally for her because she needed me. I had to change my mindset and reposition my vision. I had to tell myself that I can get through this. At that moment, I was no longer physically strong I was more mentally strong. I felt it was my mental and emotional training that allowed me to get through that dark period.
Please tell us about your business.
My business is physical and mental training. I spend my time training, coaching and public speaking. I work with clients in the privacy of their home or gym. My focus is not just the physical side of training but the mental side as well. I create specific plans that fit the needs and challenges of my clients.
I specialize in not only transforming stronger bodies with stronger minds. Listening to my client’s needs, goals and desires is my top priority. I am best known for creating individual plans, listening to my clients, keeping them accountable and giving them my best.
What sets me apart from other trainers is my approach. Each workout plan is customized for the individual based on their specific needs, challenges and goals. I keep my clients accountable, follow up and develop long-term relationships. Physical and mental training is not a quick fix, it’s a lifestyle change. I invest in my clients for the long term. Part of physical and mental training is helping my clients discover their full potential so they can move forward and accomplish their dreams and aspirations.
My client’s successes are what makes me the proudest but one particular client stands out. This client wasn’t foreign to the workout scene. This client was an athlete in school and continued to work out through their adult years while raising kids. Due to life challenges, my client was looking for something more, something different. Once we started training together, I uncovered the horrible pain my client was enduring from the loss of their father, loss of a job, financial instability and the betrayal of a good friend, in just a matter of months. I discovered my client had lost all hope and was trying to survive day by day. I didn’t fully understand the difference I had made in my client’s life until I received an emailed several months later with a video. I was surprised to hear in their own words, “ You saved my life”. My client expressed after just several months of personal training and accountability they were able to get out of bed each morning with a purpose and a desire to live their best life. My client also expressed their gratitude for the support and the encouraging words, “I will never give up on you, I will never let you give up on yourself.” In just three short months, my client stopped drinking, smoking and partying until the morning hours. In less than a year, my client has put their past hurt and pain behind them and launch their own business, along with assisting others in their business. This is why I’m so passionate about my business, I have the privilege and honor of witnessing my clients transform their lives.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
The individuals that have helped me along the way are my teammates. They provide a different perspective, share their past experiences and educate me on the do’s and don’t of business.
They’ve come along aside me and continue to help clarify my vision and purpose which has given me the passion, excitement and drive to keep pressing forward. Knowing someone cares and understands where I’m going builds trust, stronger relationships and a tight team. I call them my triangle.
