Today we’d like to introduce you to Dolly Rose.
Dolly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always loved art growing up and was always in some type of creative/art class. But before that, I had always got in trouble for trying on my mom’s makeup from her lipsticks and lip liners. In high school, I already rocked the winged eyeliner and always had a compact of MAC powder. My friends started to ask me if I can do their makeup for prom to friends going out. I loved the fact that I could help them. I always need a creative outlet and that’s also how makeup got started. I became a dual-licensed therapist meaning I have both my esthetician and massage therapist. I’ve been doing profession makeup for the last five years and I absolutely love it. I love making people feel happy about themselves and teaching them tips and tricks about makeup.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think the biggest thing is time. I was my biggest critic so I was pretty hard on myself at first. But as time gone by and me analyzing my work I got better. And I also was less hard on myself because this is my art and it can be different than what you see on social media. I also work a full-time job on the weekdays so it just took longer to where I’m completely confident in my work. I loved the process though.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I do professional makeup for weddings, photoshoots, prom and fashion events. I’ve also done makeup for pageants in the past. On top of that, I do body and face painting for special events like New Years, Halloween, and Super bowl parties. I love to do anything creative and I’m proud that I’m so diverse, it keeps it fun.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is being able to do makeup full time. One day, I want to have my own makeup team. I want to be surrounded with like-mind creatives that love to do what I do. To teach and uplift women and for them to be happy in their skin. Seeing client’s faces light up when I’m done and receiving positive feedback from clients really show me that I’m on my way to success.
