Meet Dixye Wilson of Essential Feet in Gilbert

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dixye Wilson.

Dixye, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
This business was started to fulfill a personal desire to serve others and assist with creating a mobile experience that provides relief and relaxation to the soles of your feet. On my journey to find a way to relieve stress and relaxation for myself, I found that there are so many health benefits to foot soaking, foot massages and essential oils. This journey has been so rewarding for me. It is so heartwarming to see that the services I provide give my clients a form of relaxation.

The business was launched on June 17th of this year in the middle of a pandemic. Prior to that, I spent several months researching the benefits of essential oils, especially on the feet. I researched different massage techniques. I surveyed and performed sessions on men, women and my own children. (I have a 19-year-old and nine-year-old daughter). I learned so much about  reflexology, which I do not offer; however, that will change in the near future. I had a business plan and knew what I wanted to offer; however, it was very important for me to create something people needed. The  process of surveying hands-down is  the reason Essential Feet exist today. I am so thankful for all the feedback I received during that time. Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say it has been both. It’s been smooth in the aspect of planning and preparing. Before I launched, I was only going to offer a mobile service. After doing surveys, I learned that there was a large number of people that would like the capability of going to a facility. I quickly gathered my plans, regrouped and found a way to have an option for my clients who didn’t want mobile. It was a small challenge in the beginning but ended up being a huge reward. The challenges are good ones and are necessary when trying to start a business from the ground. A small ongoing challenge is obtaining and retaining recurring clients.

Essential Feet – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We specialize in bringing direct attention to your feet through a relaxation session using essential oils, foot soaks and more. We are mobile and nothing like a pedicure, which are a few things that set us apart. It is important for us to give back to the community. We are extremely proud to have a plan that will allow us to donate to organizations in our community that are doing great things to help others. We have developed a program that allows our clients to choose which organization or family we donate to throughout the year.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Hmm… great question. I would say the proudest moment of my career is the fact that my daughter is exposed to seeing how hard work and determination is key to entrepreneurship.

It is very rewarding to teach her about dedication and having heart to serve others. I believe serving others is why we’ve been placed here. The proudest moment for me is seeing her wanting to be apart. She’s nine years old and has a role as an Essential Feet manager. it’s been great to see her take responsibility for the few tasks she’s been assigned rather, it’s helping with photos/videos, giveaways or sanitizing equipment and restocking. It’s so great to see her take responsibility; it truly makes my heart happy.
