Today we’d like to introduce you to Dino Jagger.
Dino, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always loved playing with cameras and editing software. In high school (Dobson High), I took a video class that sparked my interest in it becoming a career, thanks to my teacher, Mr. Bushman. This is where I learned all the basics around film and editing. I then went on to attend GCU as a film student for two years. In between my sophomore and junior years at GCU, I was offered a position in Grants Pass, Oregon to be a videographer for Dutch Bros Coffee marketing department (hence the name @dutchiedino). So, I went. I spent two years living there and working for the company. Learning from new experiences behind the camera on set and as a freelance-style videographer. Oregon is where my passion for shooting live music events began. I was lucky enough for my first show to be Khalid and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. This show fueled a dream that I never knew I had before. Moving back to Arizona in 2018, I would continue this dream shooting photo and video for local and touring EDM artists that come in for the big festivals and shows around the Phoenix area. This all became such a snowball of growth in music photo and video for me. Today, I’m lucky and very grateful to still be doing this as something more than a hobby.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There were many obstacles, as there are with any creative person trying to make their talent a career or job. For me though, I think most of my obstacles are internal. Whether it be high anxiety, or nervousness because of an upcoming show and just wanting to do really well, but walk away feeling like you didn’t quite get the shots you wanted. But I think that thinking through these internal obstacles is what leads to you learning and solving those problems in the next show, getting better and learning the more you do it.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
As a brand, I’d say I specialize in EDM photography and videography. As for style as a creative, I’d say my style is heavily influenced by space and space exploration. A lot of the things I post on social media are music photos and videos, but where you can really see my style is in my “art” posts, for lack of a better word. Usually, this involves me taking a portrait photo into Photoshop and re-imagining it to be more “spacey”. There’s no real direction when starting one, but I spend a lot of time sifting through the NASA images site for ideas. I would say what sets me apart is my editing style. I like to try and keep things fresh and keep bringing new ideas.
What are you striving for, what criteria or markers have you set as indicators of success?
I think personal success is being happy with what you’re doing. I don’t know of any other hobby I had as a kid that made me happier than this one. Being able to turn it into something bigger than that over the years has made me extremely happy and proud of where I am. But I’m always thinking about the next level and what it’s going to take for me to get there. I think success is also climbing that ladder and getting to the next step. The happiness I get out of doing what I do feeds that drive and makes me keep going to reach that next step.
