Today we’d like to introduce you to Devyn Parrott.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I am from North Peoria. I am married and have a set of 15 month old boy/girl twins! I work full time as an accounting & finance manager for a local electrical contracting company and I am the owner of a small t-shirt shop called Next Gen Supply. I create fun & witty tees for babies, toddlers and women. What started out as a hobby has quickly grown into a small shop that I manage out of my home.
Please tell us about your art.
I create all of the designs on a software which are then cut on vinyl and heat pressed onto the shirts. I love the whole monochrome theme so my entire shop is black and white shirts with black or white designs. I started out by making shirts for my kids as a hobby. I remember always thinking to myself “how cute would this be on a kid’s shirt?”… Trying to google it and not finding exactly what I was looking for. I then purchased my vinyl cutting machine and heat press. Once my friends figured out I could make shirts, they started asking me for custom designs and Next Gen Supply grew from there.
My twins are my biggest inspiration! My husband and I were told at one point that we had a very small chance of having children naturally. We spent the following 6 months undergoing fertility treatments and eventually proceeded with IVF (In Vitro Fertilization). We lost a few pregnancies prior to the twins so when we found out we were expecting twins we were cautiously optimistic. Every day of my pregnancy was a blessing. When they finally arrived we felt like we had been waiting on them for what seemed like forever. Now, I can’t manage to slow time down. They inspire me every day to be the best mom I can be. They inspire ALL of my children’s tees and some of my “mom” tees (especially the Mamacita needs a margarita tank). Everyone always says “oh your hands are full” but it’s hard to remember what life was like before them. They keep us busy but they are the funniest duo I have ever known.
What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
The conditions for artists today have improved substantially! Thanks to technology, we are now able to reach audiences that artists traditionally would not have been capable of. Social media platforms create an increase in exposure and opportunity to not only be recognized but to also collaborate with other brands and local businesses. The city can help support local artists and vendors by promoting the importance of shopping local, its effects on the economy and how it benefits the community overall.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Aside from browsing and shopping our website, you can find part of our collections at Woods & Whites inside Arrowhead Mall in Glendale. Woods & Whites is a store that highlights local artists and was recently voted the best new store in the west valley by Phoenix Magazine! Our Instagram and Facebook pages are where all the action happens. That’s where we host fun giveaways, launch our brand rep searches, give sneak peaks of new supply and release discount codes. We are starting to explore and research different vendor market opportunities as well! Once we finalize dates we will be sharing our schedule on Instagram, Facebook, and our website.
Since we are primarily an online brand… we rely heavily on social media for marketing. With that being said the best way to support our shop is through social media. We love hearing from our followers! Whether it be commenting and liking a post, sharing our page, or tagging us in pictures of you or your littles wearing our tees, it all helps get our brand out there for others to discover. Once we start participating in the local vendor markets, another way to support us is simply to stop by and say hello!
