Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Nicole.
Devin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started in photography during my junior year of high school, with a 35 mm film camera. I got my first DSLR camera for Christmas that year and took off from there. Learning photography on film gave me a good eye for light and made me strive to get things perfect on camera versus having to fix photos in the darkroom. I use those same skills now, though I work in Lightroom and photoshop versus a dark room now!
Has it been a smooth road?
Like most photographers, I struggled with finding my style and I’ve switched up my editing style throughout the years. In the last year, I’ve finally found the perfect style for my work. I’ve always been pretty outgoing and have always been able to relate to my clients, but this year I found a way to connect with my clients better and have been able to create some amazing photos with the families I’ve worked with.
Please tell us about your business.
I specialize in portraits. While weddings and events are fun and all, I love to really connect with my clients and create images that they’ll cherish for years to come. I do all kinds of portraits – families, couples, birthday sessions for children, maternity, and even boudoir. I do sessions on location and have an in home lifestyle studio as well that I use for newborn sessions and boudoir.
I love getting candid shots of the clients I work with and getting REAL emotion, versus all posed photos. I feel like the smiles I get from a family tickle fight are so much more genuine than the photos where we say “say cheese!”
I’m most proud of my drive to constantly learn and grow. It’s so easy to stay stagnant and just keep trucking on with the same routine, but I always want my clients to have the best photos possible and the best experience, as well.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the East Valley – from Downtown Gilbert and the amazing foods there, to the gorgeous scenery of the Salt River in Mesa, and don’t even get me started on the incredible people here- we have such a mashup of people from all over the country and it’s incredible to get to see and experience different cultures. I honestly can’t think of one thing I don’t love about Arizona and the Valley of the Sun!
