Meet Destiny Gray of BlackTravelVibes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Gray.

Destiny, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Destiny Gray I’m a dancer and cheerleading instructor. I graduated from Cal State Long Beach with my bachelor’s in Human Development. After college, I intended to be a social worker. However, I still wanted to pursue a career in dance before I got older and regret not following my dreams. After enrolling in a dance scholarship program, I fell into the ballroom scene, which is not necessarily geared towards the dance industry and I was totally fine with that because I fell in love with the ballroom scene. Fast forward to 2020, I still found myself unhappy and unsatisfied. I’ve earned this degree that I’m not putting to use. I’m still working at a hospital that I’ve been at for almost 10years without promotion. By this time, Covid 19 has hit the entire world and put many people out of work, homes and in tough financial situations.

That’s when I realized I have to create my own business, an additional source of income using my gifts. I have a passion for traveling and curating memorable experiences for others. I’ve planned parties, events, and travel arrangements for at least ten years for myself, family or friends. So I thought why not combined the two. So that’s when I decided I wanted to create Black Travel Vibes. Black Travel Vibes is a travel company that provides adventures, excursions and creates the day to day itinerary for large groups to a tropical destination. It’s primarily geared to people of color. I noticed when I go to different countries, there’s not a lot of black tourists that I see and I wanted to change that. I wanted to help those of color travel more outside of the country by making it more affordable and easily accessible. We’re in the process of kicking off our first group trip to Cancun. There’s nothing more that I’d love to do than create an amazing experience for people. I’m truly excited that I have found my purpose and pursuing my calling.

Has it been a smooth road?
Creating your own business is definitely not smooth sailing. As a new business, the hard part of kicking off the first trip is getting people to trust your new business and a new brand they’ve never heard of. Especially when your in a business that’s selling an experience versus selling something tangible.

Please tell us about BlackTravelVibes.
My business is called Black Travel Vibes. It’s a travel company geared to people of color. We take care of day to day transportation, daily activities, food and excursions and of course we can’t forget about the turn-ups! I’m most proud that we are able to curate a group of people of color and expose them to new cultures and implement our own traditions in new places. What’s sets us apart from other travel companies is our affordability and excursions. Our excursions gear to those who like to do once in a lifetime activities.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In 5-10 years, I see my business acquiring more employees and also traveling to more countries than imaginable. I also see us building a family bond with those who we have traveled with other the years.
