Meet Denise Carmichael of Denise Ana Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Carmichael.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Denise. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Throughout my childhood, photography was always a safe place for me. My family enjoyed traveling to different states and camping at National Parks. Some of my favorite memories are of me exploring with my 35mm Ricoh film camera. It wasn’t until college when I was diagnosed with an undiagnosed illness and was told I was not going to be able to pursue the career I had been hoping for. I always fell back onto photography in my darkest moments; literally, I would go into my college’s darkroom and process rolls of film. That’s when one of my photography professors told me I had a real talent for this and that I should consider following this path. I didn’t believe him at first; fast forward to now, and here I am living that dream. There’s no doubt that everything that happened was simply guiding me into the direction I was meant to be in. I’m capturing some of the happiest moments for people; and I’m the happiest person I have ever been doing so!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There will always be obstacles and challenges; as there are in any career path. But I always try to keep a positive mentality! Look at it as the candles that light our way; in between each candle there is a moment of darkness, but we never lose sight of where we are going. I’m not saying it’s been easier for me because it definitely has not been. Just keep your chin up and remember where you’re going, because it’s the path that leads us there that keeps us humble.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Denise Ana Photography – what should we know?
Denise Ana Photography specializes in everything from Maternity, Seniors, Portraits, Families, Engagements and Weddings. I am just so proud of how far I’ve come and how far I will continue to go. I truly believe I’ll never stop learning and growing. I love all the new people I have had the opportunity of meeting and having the opportunity to photograph memories that will last a lifetime for them. I think what sets me apart is that I truly try to connect with my clients; I don’t just want to photograph this for you, I want to experience it with you. When I experience the moments with my clients, it allows them to really shine as who they are as individuals as opposed to just another photographer taking pictures. I don’t just take pictures, I capture moments!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe number one is communication; following that I would proceed with kindness, honesty and efficiency. I also believe in praising my clients during their session. If a client of mine strikes a pose or does something that I just absolutely love during their session, I am hands down, going to call it out and just let my client know how much I love what they did. It allows for them to loosen up and get comfortable. Not to mention, we literally end up creating magic this way!
