Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Dubree.

With only a high school diploma Deborah catapulted her career from answering phones as a receptionist to become the owner/CEO of a $20 million corporation.

After selling the corporation Deborah founded ClearEdge, LLC.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve endured many potential roadblocks and struggles over my life, career and business.

The first was the death of my brother when I was 12 years old and he was 16. He was killed in a car accident 5 days before Christmas.

Other struggles consisted of: being a small-town girl in a big city; only having a high-school diploma; divorcing after a twenty-five year marriage; becoming a single-mom with two kids; being forced into bankruptcy; building my own financial credit history when I had none; the sudden death of two business partners; an emotionally and verbally abusive personal relationship with a long-time boyfriend; being the only woman in a leadership position in a heavily dominated male industry; eleven surgeries of which two were life-threatening; trusting a business partner who stole over a million dollars from me; both my mom and dad passing away; etc., etc., etc.

Business owners hire me to interrupt the bull shit stories going on in their heads, because most are perfectionist who run hard and fast to prove themselves over and over again, are wasting time and money overthinking their decisions, and are personally disappointed in their progress.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in the small town of Lockport, Illinois … on the outskirts of Chicago. Approximately 8,800 residents. I was a straight A student who loved sports, dancing and singing.

My brother and I were just getting to know each other when he was killed. As kids we would take turns visiting our grandparent’s farm during summer vacation. Lots of chickens, cows and crops. We always looked forward to seeing how many new kitties had been born. And grandma let us help her bake fresh bread; make homemade jam from the strawberries and raspberries we picked; and gather the chicken eggs. It was a wonderful way to grow up.

When visiting my dad’s side of the family we traveled to Kentucky and the tobacco farm. Breakfast included pork chops, fried chicken, biscuits, gravy, eggs, etc. Everyone was getting ready to work the fields. In the evenings we sat in the porch swing, listened to the adults tell stories and we’d all sing songs. I felt very love by all of my family.

Plus, I learned about hard work, discipline and doing what was necessary.
