Meet David Warr of Giving Tree Cafe in Coronado

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Warr.

David, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The Healthy Vegan lifestyle is growing in popularity all over America. Giving Tree Cafe goes even further. Our restaurant is 100% vegan as well as 100% organic and 100% gluten-free. Our focus is on optimal health and wellness. Wellness for ourselves, our community and our planet. Because our food is made with only the freshest and highest quality organic ingredients, it tastes better. Cleaner. And because our chef has been vegan for 46 years, he’s had lots of time to perfect his craft. So our food tastes amazing!

With today’s current Covid-19 health crisis, people are more aware of boosting their immune system. The foods we eat play a major role in either boosting our immune system to work at peak capacity or tearing it down with processed foods, refined sugars, oils, etc. The food we eat not only makes us healthy, but it can keep the planet healthy too. So Giving Tree Cafe is a model of an American Vegan restaurant doing business in a way that is sustainable going forward seven generations to promote a healthy environment for all humans and animals to ensure a clean Planet for all of us and our posterity to enjoy!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The restaurant business is typically thought of as one with many struggles. The way we do business minimizes those. How is that possible? We start by only doing what we love to do. What we are passionate about. When you enter our space, it feels different. More inviting. More like your own home. You feel welcome. Because the people you encounter here are truly authentic in their quest to deliver a remarkable experience. It feels good to work in an environment like this. It feels good to be a guest in an environment like this. It feels good when you put your head on your pillow at night and you think about all of the unlifted souls whom you have served that day. The struggles are still there. They just seem to easily be washed away and replaced with a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction.

Please tell us about Giving Tree Cafe.
Giving Tree Cafe is a restaurant. We specialize in healthy vegan food. The healthy is what sets us apart. A diet soda and a bag of corn chips is a vegan meal. But not a very healthy one. We start with healthy first. It just so happens that eating a lot of dairy and meat is not the most healthy diet. So we don’t do it. We are vegan. However, there are a lot of vegan restaurants that actually are not very healthy. For instance, a slab of tofu or seitan on a gluten bun with a sugary, salty sauce may taste great, but just as unhealthy as its meaty counterpart. So we make all of our own food made of vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds. It not only is much healthier, but it tastes better. Cleaner. Fresher.

Actually, we start with sustainability first. Animal factory farming is not sustainable. If we continue on our current trajectory, some scientists say that by 2030, we will have caused irreversible damage to our planet. And millions will die. The quickest way to reverse that is with a plant-based diet. So we are very proud to also be on the cutting edge of the solution-focused businesses that are leading the way to a healthy sustainable environment for all of us and our children and our children’s children to enjoy!
