Meet David and Jen Tai

Today we’d like to introduce you to David and Jen Tai.

David and Jen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hi! We’re Jen and David, a husband and wife duo born and raised in AZ, and we teach movement classes and private lessons in the Phoenix Metropolitan area. Together, we specialize in teaching Partner Acrobatics and Acro Yoga. As individuals, Jen brings in over 800 hours of training + teaching in yoga therapy, and David brings in expertise in functional range movement and cycle.

As a duo, we aim to bring an enthusiastic, dynamic, and foundational approach to our teaching and practice. We love sharing the magic of connection, healing, trust, and play with others. Natives of the desert, we do favor the warmth of the Southwest, but we also love traveling and experiencing new communities all over the world. Our story as Jen and David Acro starts about five years ago when we both left our corporate jobs in finance to pursue a life more balanced and free. On a whim, we signed up for an acro, slackline, and climbing retreat in Thailand – the rest is history!

What began as a personal initiative to simply restore our body, mind and spirit, now has turned into a full-fledged passion for sharing the magic of movement, connection, and wellness to others. We found that we love supporting others through movement, whether it is through physically lifting others, or through the power of connection and teaching. We are honored we get to share this practice with our community and friends.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When we decided to leave our corporate jobs, we did not ever plan to become full-time movement teachers. It was just a way for us to get back into shape after years of sitting behind a desk in front of a computer. A few years later, here we are, sharing movement as a hugely important part of our lives. Life has a funny way of surprising us like that.

A big obstacle for us was the fear of leaving a life of financial stability and success, all to pursue a life filled with uncertainty. Call us free spirits, call us millennials, but we deliberately chose to leave a perfectly good version of life, to chase after a feeling of balance, peace and freedom. To chase after life more true and authentic to us. It took a long time to convince ourselves that we are worthy of this authentic life. It took an even longer time to convince our families of that as well.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Our closest friends who have known us for years tend to laugh at us at times, often calling us modern day renaissance people because both of us have so many interests in life, especially as it pertains to movement and wellness, creativity and freedom. We like to dabble a little bit in everything that makes us feel most alive. We believe this brings a lot of perspective, abundance, and life to what we offer to our communities. We are honored to have this privilege in life.

But to answer your question, as Jen and David Acro (and as our name puts it), we are most known for teaching partner acrobatics and acro yoga together. As we mentioned earlier, we love supporting others through movement, whether it is through physically lifting others, or through the power of connection and teaching. We are forever grateful we get to share this practice with our communities and friends.

We believe what sets us apart from others is that we also have training and experience in other movement disciplines aside from just partner acrobatics. Jen, for example, brings her experience in teaching therapeutic yoga to the table, and David has experience in Functional Range Conditioning and teaching group cycle classes. All of this combined makes us more versatile and sensitive teachers. We have a big toolbox to draw from, and we have a true passion for leading quality classes and sessions for those we get the privilege to teach.

What were you like growing up?
So, funny story. We grew up going to the same high school. We both played violin in the same community youth orchestra, we both enjoyed similar sports and activities. We nerded out on the same things like joining our school’s government competition team and going to Washington D.C. to compete nationally. We also went to the same college and majored in the same major – Finance. We even had the same honors professor. After graduation, we both joined the same Muay Thai kickboxing gym. And we both spent quite a bit of time living/volunteering in SE Asia because our hearts are drawn there.

The funny part is that we actually NEVER met until years after all of this. Turns out our best friends are siblings and we met at just the right timing and place. We always say destiny truly brought us together.
